A Brief Overview
The Anesthesia Manager is responsible for the delivery of clinical support services for the Department of Anesthesia. Other duties include personnel management, management of organizational systems and workflow, continuous quality improvement, fiscal management and departmental goals and programs for his/her area of responsibility.

What you will do
  • Manages and monitors the provision of quality, cost-effective Anesthesia support services in accordance with standards of practice and SHS policies and procedures.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates systems and practices which facilitate smooth work flow and desired outcomes. Solicits input from Department of Anesthesia, managers, leads, and staff. Recommends changes and enhancements to Director of Perioperative Services.
  • Works with management, Department of Anesthesia and staff to determine a model for anesthesia support services in the Periop region. Implements and evaluates model for safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Allocates/assigns staff for proper utilization of personnel in relation to the level and type of patient activity, employee expertise and staffing/scheduling guidelines.
  • Mentors lead staff to correctly coach, orient and provide feedback to departmental personnel.
  • Interviews, hires, coaches, counsels, and evaluates personnel utilizing appropriate SHC resources including: policies, procedures and the department of Human Resources.
  • Works with Lead personnel and staff to develop, maintain and evaluate a comprehensive continuous quality improvement program that is in compliance with Perioperative Services and the hospital at large.
  • Proactively uses problem solving process to identify, prevent, or resolve departmental related problems, utilizing the chain of command as necessary.
  • Works with Department of Anesthesia, managers, and staff to plan, develop and recommend annual budgets. Assists with administering and monitoring expenditures, completing variance reports and implementing corrective action to resolve budget variances.
  • Provides direct support to assist with workload of subordinates as needed.
  • Acts as a resource concerning Anesthesia Support for the Periop Region and the hospital at large.
  • Integrates department's servies with the hospital's primary functions by supporting organizational mission, priorities and goals, and by delievering optimal quality health care services.
  • Coordinates and integrates services within department and with other departments by continually collaborating with other managers.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services:ensures that policies and procedures are compatible with the function and goals of SHC and which meet the external regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Consistently recommends and ensures that sufficient number of qualified and competent persons are available to provide care that is safe and service oriented.
  • Effectively determines the qualifications and comptence of departmental staff who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners;documents initial and ongoing competence of staff.
  • Continuosly assesses and improves department's performance based on "customer" needs;directs and participates in improving performance and services which benefit staff, patients and other customers.
  • Effectively maintains appropriate quality improvement and control programs in response to staff and patient feedback, internal standards of care and external requirements.
  • Ensures there is adequate ongoing educational programs and training opportunities for all staff in area of responsibility, including orientation of new employees and relevant inservice staff sessions.
  • Recommends space and other resources needed by the department to meet patient and staff needs.

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications
  • 3 years of managerial experience in anesthesia, including continuous quality improvement, management development, counseling, disciplinary action and writing performance evaluations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated business communication skills (read, write, speak, interpersonal).
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated familiarity, knowledge and understanding of computers and software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Licenses and Certifications
  • CAT - Certified Anesthesia Tech and
  • BLS - Basic Life Support within 30 Days

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $51.11 - $67.71 per hour
