POSITION SUMMARY

This is a skilled position providing mechanical maintenance to the Water Filtration Plant, booster pump stations, and elevated towers. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electro-mechanical machinery and related equipment.

Employees in this class normally work independently on the basis of general and specific instruction for the day. Work is reviewed by the Public Works Utility Operations Manager or the Plant Manager who checks records, charts and makes daily inspections throughout the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

· Inspect, maintain, and repair of mechanical equipment at the Water Filtration Plant, booster pump station, and elevated towers. Clean and make repairs inside of tanks. Perform general maintenance, custodial and repair tasks on buildings, structures and grounds. Maintain equipment, buildings, and grounds in a clean and orderly manner. 40%

· Control and operate equipment as necessary to insure proper operations of treatment equipment, shore well, low lift pumps, rapid mix, floculator, dual mdia filters, ozone system, granular activated carbon filters, liquid chemical feeders, gaseous chemical feeders, finished water reservoirs (clear wells), emergency generators, high lift pumps, chlorination, ozonation equipment and monitors, booster pump station, pressure reducing valve stations, and all elevated storage towers in the system. Inspect motors, bearings and gear boxes. 20%

· Regulate water flow through the treatment plant and makes adjustments in the process in accordance with prescribed standards. Collect samples, and perform physical and chemical analyses at various points in the process and distribution system. Maintain and prepare all necessary plant operating records, logs and charts. Assist in keeping computerized maintenance records and ordering maintenance materials 15%

· Repair and replace packing in pumps or valves and bearings in motors, pumps, gearboxes and other equipment. Perform plumbing and pipe fitting tasks and perform light carpentry work as required. Repair and adjust pneumatic controlled processes. Use gas and/or arc welding equipment to heat, cut, braze, or weld. Install and set up new equipment. 15%

· Respond to emergency call-outs. Maintain emergency power generating systems. 5%

· Work with and/or coordinate work with other maintenance personnel, water filtration plant staff or temporary staff, and other departments. 5%

· Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Minimum of four (4) years of experience in electro-mechanical maintenance work involving pumps, motors, gearboxes, transmissions, and related equipment, or an equivalent amount of education, training and experience.

· Possess or have the ability to obtain State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Grade 1, Class S Waterworks Operator Certification within one year of employment.

· Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.98 - $30.83 per hour
