About us

Since 1960, Manchester's Little Theatre has been producing community theater. Throughout the years, LTM's volunteers have produced more than 650 quality performances that have been well-received and well-applauded. With the help of the Town of Manchester, the Little Theatre restored Cheney Hall in the 1980s. Following an extensive, award-winning restoration, the Little Theatre of Manchester moved into the state's oldest operating theater in 1991.

Today, LTM's programs feature five main-stage theatrical productions, numerous concerts, special events, and a range of other cultural, business, civic, and private events. The Little Theatre is proud to serve a growing audience of approximately 12,000 annually.

The Maintenance Custodian is a physically demanding position. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position involves a variety of cleaning and custodial work at Cheney Hall and performs basic building maintenance assignments. The ability to work 20 hours a week, at night, and on weekends is required.

Required Skills:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, talk or hear; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • This employee should know proper cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment and can read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on using and applying cleaning chemicals and products.
  • This employee should know methods and practices of building security and building maintenance methods, tools, and equipment.
  • Occasionally, this employee may need to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • This employee should be able to work under little supervision.

Job description:

  • Hours: 20 hours per week, with times during the year when additional hours may be requested. The general schedule is four to five times per week as needed per performance and rental calendars. The ability to have a flexible schedule and to work nights and weekends is required.
  • Custodial: Cleaning of all rooms and outside areas of Cheney Hall, including dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning restrooms, disposing of waste, and other activities as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Setup: Preparing and teardown rooms for varied users as directed by the Executive Director. This includes lifting tables, chairs, lecterns, and other equipment and setting room needs as directed. One of the major tasks of this position is setting up and taking down theater chairs for each Little Theatre production.
  • Maintenance: Performance of regular fire and physical safety checks as required. Replaces light bulbs. Helps to maintain building security, which includes turning out lights and locking doors and windows. Performs basic maintenance, including non-complex electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical repairs. Operates and performs basic maintenance on power-cleaning equipment. Operates hand and power tools. Transports and delivers materials and equipment between various locations. Performs deliveries as necessary.
  • Supplies: Keeping an inventory of supplies needed and bringing requests to the attention of the Executive Director on a timely basis.

Additional Information:

No benefits (e.g., paid holidays, paid sick days, health care, etc.) are included in this position. Cheney Hall is closed for the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
