Full Job Description

The Machine Shop Assistant is an entry-level position helping out as needed in various departments within our machine shop. This position is a great starting point for those who want to work their way up in the industry!

Your opportunity to learn is only limited by your own desire to expand your knowledge and skills. You'll have the opportunity to learn about the manufacturing process, from material management, debur & small parts assembly to CNC machine support, heat treating, and sandblasting. While learning, you'll also perform less technical tasks, such as parts stock cut and prep and keeping the shop area organized and clean. Perform building maintenance, small mechanical repairs, and project support for various departments and team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lifting and moving materials to designated workstations or storage areas on and around the production floor.
• Assist Machinists with material preparation, grinding, beveling, sawing, etc.
• Provide general labor support services to all applicable as needed or assigned.
• Perform preventive maintenance for various CNC machines and other shop equipment.
• Organize parts and prepare them for the next process based on production routing.
• Operate general shop tools, such as saws, grinders, and sandblasters.
• Perform housekeeping functions; clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and work areas as assigned.
• Performs minor and routine building maintenance tasks and maintains the grounds.
• Ability to follow safety and maintenance procedures while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
• Other duties as needed

* Requires sufficient mobility to walk, stand, kneel, or bend for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate, or light lifting; and operate motorized equipment and vehicles. The shop helper is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch when working.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Be comfortable working on a variety of projects and pitch in where needed.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent (strongly preferred, but not required).
• Enjoy working in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
• Basic knowledge of math and Mechanical tools is required.
• Ability to learn to become certified and operate a forklift truck.
