Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision, the Machining Technician operates manual, conventional and CNC controlled machines. Performs skilled precision and bench work in the fabrication, maintenance, repair, alteration of machinery, machine parts, tools, and equipment. The Machining Technician will:
- Follow job instructions and comprehend specifications.
- Operates and understand correct machine setup to achieve the correct final product.
- Reading and understanding blueprints that detail fabrication tolerances.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
- Produce machined parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Using precision measuring instruments, measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Adjust, and operate basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of the machines during the machining process.
- Stop any machine if there is a need for safety or quality concerns.
Qualifications
- 3-5 Years related experience
- Journeymen certification preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform basic mathematical operations
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to effectively communicate and understand instructions verbally and written in English
- Able to use tools and take accurate measurements
- Good organizational skills and enthusiastic to learn
- Detail oriented and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in a mathematical or diagram form
- Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane
Working Conditions
Hours
Full time, 4 days/week 6.30 am. to 5:00 pm. Occasional OT required.
Environment
Standard on an industrial/machine shop environment/Warehouse/Manufacturing
Equipment Used
As required within the machine shop environment (machine tools, CNC tools & programming)
Physical Requirements
Lifting
50 lbs. or 75 lbs. with second person.
Sitting / Standing
Required to be standing for long periods (up to 4 hours between breaks)
Hazards
Some exposure to UV light, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level sometimes could be high.
Other
Some walking and stairs (3 buildings. Two have 2 levels.) Specific vision abilities required as close, distance, and color vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus. Protective equipment required.
