Prescient Design seeks an exceptional machine learning engineer who has a demonstrated background in machine learning, a passion for technical problem-solving, and a proven ability to develop cutting-edge language models and scale them from research to production.

Prescient Design provides a dynamic and challenging environment for cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research including access to rich sources of data, close links to top academic institutions around the world, as well as internal Genentech and Roche partners and research units. As part of the new Roche Language Model (RLM) group at Prescient Design, the Senior Machine Learning Engineer will primarily focus on implementing state-of-the-art methods capable of learning effective representations from heterogeneous sources of information that can help drive and sharpen the research questions we study. Fundamentally, our research goals allow us to collaborate closely with and–contribute uniquely to–many different project teams across the company.

The Role

• Participate in cutting-edge research in LLM design, modeling, and deployment with applications across Roche and Genentech in biomedical research and molecular design.

• You will be expected to work with Prescient Design’s Engineering team and other engineering groups across the company in managing and scaling different data pipelines for training and inference.

• You will be expected to solve core engineering challenges including the design, implementation, and scaling of LLM including large-scale pretraining, Roche-specific fine-tuning, student-teacher architectures, efficient adaptation and deployment.

Qualifications

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• At least 2 years of relevant work experience

• Strong programming skills in languages like C++, Python, Java, Scala, Rust, Go, and CUDA.

• Experience with one or more of the following: PyTorch/PyTorch Lightning, JAX.

• Experience with cloud computing and infrastructure including Amazon Web Services (AWS)

• Experience with containzeration and orchestration tools like Docker, Singularity, Kubernetes, and Prefect.

• Experience with deploying and maintaining deep learning systems and services in production at scale, including using MLOps frameworks like Weights & Biases.

• Experience developing and maintaining codebases and software libraries, following industry best practices.

• Intense curiosity about the biology of disease and eagerness to contribute to scientific and computational efforts.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of New York City is $137,400 and $255,200 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
