Work side by side with staff demonstrating strong leadership skills. Focus on customer service as well as control and supervision of the sales area. Work as facilitator within the store team, demonstrating and continuing to develop a deep knowledge of retail and building materials. Promote a culture of professionalism & organization and a team with a passion for the industry as well as customer service.

Inside Sales Supervisory Responsibilities
1. Sales Support – Provide inside sales support as counterpart to certain outside sales reps.
  • Generate estimates & proposals
  • Place orders
  • Coordinate materials
  • Source materials for estimates & orders
  • Maintain working knowledge of projects being quoted & projects in process
  • Enlist assistance of others with support needs as appropriate
2. Sales Support oversight
  • Maintain working knowledge of support work being done by other inside staff, and ensure appropriate response times and accuracy of work done by inside staff
  • Delegate and assist with support requested of other inside staff when appropriate and as time allows
3. Store Supervision & Sales
  • Strengthen and develop customer satisfaction & loyalty through requiring the highest level of professionalism from all employees
  • Proper greeting, assistance, and/or direction of each person walking into store (never allow pointing or description of where to go – each customer is to be walked in direction of location or to location)
  • Employee assistance throughout store as well as from counter
  • Knowledgeable and pleasant sales staff
  • Ensure selling at POS of correct SKUs
  • Enforce professional, clean, and proper presentation and attire amount all employees
  • Gain respect of customers with response to challenging scenarios – goal of 85% issue resolution without management involvement.
  • Be the eyes on the floor and in front of store for appropriate placing of items / parking of vehicles / placement of moveable displays. i.e. no boxes in aisles, correct placement of mat rack and the like, don’t let W.B. Mason truck clog driveway, etc.
  • Oversee and ensure success with tasks of direct reports, i.e. successful use of label printer, proper care and maintenance of paint equipment, etc.
  • Coordinate with management and store team to organize store & customer training events and seminars
  • Quick and accurate turnaround on quotations – faxed, phone-in, or walk-in customers
  • Same day for stock product, 24hrs for special order quotes unless dictated otherwise by vendor.
  • Prompt and pleasant answering of all telephone calls to store
  • Organization of procedures relevant to store necessary to ensure good customer service:
i.e. access to and knowledge of location of quotes and paperwork of fellow employees
prerequisite of neat and orderly workspaces for all employees both on desk and in files to allow
management or if appropriate fellow employees the ability to help a customer
  • Set tone of willingness to take inquiries for wide range of customer needs, including special orders that
may require extra effort to locate and some learning curve for employees, with the intention that
some of these inquiries may lead to profitable sales or the opportunity to quote for a complete new home or remodel,
or additional customer referrals.
  • Telephone: Set criteria for profession and intelligent qualification of incoming phone calls
o Asking the right questions so that new home potentials are understood
o Handling phone inquiries as a sales opportunity – maybe a salesperson or showroom referral
o Develop business through these inquiries by demonstrating interest and product knowledge

4. Showroom Sales Supervision
  • Oversee showroom staff in sales and sales support roles
5. Inventory Assistance
o Control of incoming and outgoing merchandise
  • Inventory - Communicate replenishment needs for store & yard inventory to purchasing coordinator
o Stay current with new product offerings from vendors
  • Attend trade shows as requested by management (i.e. ACE, Orgill,NRLA)
  • Develop relationships with vendors
o Communicate customer requests for new product
o Ensure that incoming stock orders are put away efficiently, accurately, quickly
o Ensure that bin tags on products are not older than 8 months.
  • Cycle Counts & inventory
o Self-perform physical counts in yard & store of items selected by purchasing coordinator
o Communicate to inventory coordinator when figures in computer are accurate.
  • Maintain organization in all store backstock areas (closet, moulding barn, joint compound and other back shed)
  • Merchandising – Oversight of merchandiser to maintain store and product appeal and efficiency on a consistent basis
o Delegate tasks to maintain a properly merchandised and appealing appearance throughout store
o Develop cleaning cycle to complement the ongoing merchandising efforts
o Work with staff to develop a sense of pride in store cleanliness and appearance
o Ensure clear aisles – no obstructing boxes, product, etc.
o Insist on staff involvement in store cleanliness and impeccable appearance

6. Yard Operations
Oversight of delivery fulfillment
Oversight of stock & special order inventory
Perform physical counts

Safety
Promote safety when handling materials, operating equipment, & performing job functions

Checkout
Assist with overseeing checkout / moulding barn.

Training

NRLA LMS Training:
Complete training via the NRLA/ LMBDF education portal as assigned and ensure that store associates do as well.
ACE Learning Place
Complete ACE Learning Plans as assigned & ensure that store associates do as well.
Attend any other training / development courses as determined needed.

Personnel
Maintain and enhance positive work environment
Increase capabilities and professionalism of staff
Ensure that store staff follows proper paperwork procedures
Inspire productivity from each employee in his / her structured environment
Training – Ensure that necessary training as required or requested by management is completed by staff.
i.e. for store: ACE product training, NRLA training, and other industry product knowledge improvement opportunities.
i.e. for yard: forklift training, safety skills, etc.
Hold store employees responsible for job performance, including rewarding excellent performance or: providing constructive feedback, exercising disciplinary action, terminating as necessary.

10 years experience in construction industry required. 3 years of supervisory experience required. Strong computer skills a must. Bachelor's degree preferred. Position includes working every other Saturday. Travel to industry shows and events required as needed.
