MISSION / SUMMARY:

Single point of contact to maintain a stable, responsive, optimized and properly utilized truck/intermodal/LTL capacity solution for all production facilities and distribution points. Responsible for overseeing compliance with negotiated transportation rates and volume commitments, while ensuring adequate capacity and on-time delivery performance. Manage and monitor all modes of transportation and work with cross-functional teams to determine the optimal mode of transport for each independent shipping lane while balancing business and customer requirements.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Maintain Strategic Carrier partnership relationships.
  • Monitor and manage carrier activity to ensure consistency with carrier’s contractual commitments and take corrective action to resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor shipment activities to ensure sufficient capacity is maintained for all facilities and optimize route guides using service/cost analysis to meet facility shipping patterns.
  • Foster direct relationships with Carrier sales and operations representatives to drive optimal performance initiatives.
  • Develop relationships with minority Carrier suppliers to meet annual minority business spend objective.
  • Maintain Carrier profiles, contract documentation and rate systems in coordination with the Transportation Analysts.
  • Support the Manager, Strategic Sourcing – Freight with annual RFPs for truck/intermodal/LTL.
  • Support the Manager, Strategic Sourcing – Freight to seek out cost reduction opportunities through negotiations, enhanced cost controls, operational optimization, cost avoidance, and the pursuit of total cost of ownership savings.
  • Actively collaborate with supply chain sourcing, customer service and transportation planning teams to insure the most cost-effective transportation modes are secured for inbound/outbound deliveries (customer/supplier-sourced vs. GPI-sourced freight).
  • Evaluate potential requirements for utilizing dedicated carrier assignments at strategic facilities.
  • Optimize the use of track/trace software to report Carrier locations to internal/external customers.
  • Develop processes and deploy methods to reduce controllable Carrier accessorial cost.
  • Develop and distribute monthly Carrier valued-added scorecard reports.
  • Ensure GPIs owned and leased transportation assets are compliant with DOT regulatory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 + years of supply chain operations experience in a complex logistics organization.
  • 2 – 3 years truckload operations and/or management.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics or business-related field
  • Advanced computer skills including a significant understanding of SAP.
  • Moderate to Advanced experience with Excel, Access, and other analytical software tools.
  • Working knowledge of rail tracing software and applications.

  • Ability to prepare complex reports, statements, and professional communications.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, detail orientation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement creative solutions while working under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of management.
  • Ability to use technology to solve business problems.
