MID DAY SHIFT Monday-Friday 1pm-930pm

The South Coast Behavioral Health Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) works closely with each of the clients, the Director of Healthcare, and the Medical Director on an individual basis providing assistance in the areas of medication observation and medical appointment scheduling, as well as overall client health, in a Residential inpatient care facility (Incidental Medical Services) serving dual diagnosed clients who are detoxing off alcohol and other drugs.


Job Duties:

  • the Licensed Vocational Nurse follow all state of California rules and regulations concerning standards of care.
  • Works with Director of Healthcare and Inpatient Operations Manager to oversee detoxification services.
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse strictly enforces and supports person-served rights and confidentiality of information as required by HIPAA.
  • Provide supervision/ assistance to all persons served in medication offered and observed.
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse provides medication teaching and answer all questions regarding medications prescribed.
  • Participates in documentation of behaviors and communicates to supervising staff promptly.
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for new admission assessments, TB tests, lab draws and all related procedures as well as setting up for doctor visits either by DOXY or in office visits.
  • Observation of detoxification clients, documentation, audit functions, and record keeping of all observed/ inventoried/ destroyed/ prescribed medications
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse completes assessments of patients with addiction and mental health conditions, and assisting in ascertaining clinical medication management with Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director.
  • Responsible for medication management and refilling of appropriate medications as well as d/c of medications.
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible to document nursing progress notes, MAR’s, including communicating to staff by phone and/or email.
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse does documentation of BAC, vital signs, COWS, CIWAS, behavior changes, medication responses and illness.
  • Manages complete Medication Administration Record Sheets and system.
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse works closely with Medical Director to provide education and counseling for clients and other organizational health care providers on optimal use of medicines (e.g., proper use, avoidance of over medication).
  • Assuring the prompt coordination of transportation of person served to appointments made by nursing such as urgent care, hospital and all appropriate documentation is accompanying the person served.
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse Assists/supervises/monitors in the maintenance and cleanliness of the nursing center office.
  • Crisis intervention and/or initiation of emergency protocol if needed, including CPR and calling 911.
  • Implement IMS duties as assigned by Medical Director.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Successful completion of a California Approved Nursing Program (must be licensed by the California State Board of Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians)
  • Knowledge of commonly used drugs and their action.
  • Have basic knowledge in medical procedures, administering medication, and computation of dosages.
  • Demonstrate necessary organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and able to submit the required case documentation that is of professional quality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with staff and residents.
  • Ability to perform work-related driving. Must maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier, vehicle liability insurance and vehicle(s) in compliance with agency’s safety standards.
  • Must be able to successfully receive a Criminal Record Clearance, TB & Medical History Review Clearance, and Employment Verification.
  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Google Docs and other internet applications.
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency.
