STUDIO SPECIALIST

Overview

Under general direction from the Digital Services Manager, is responsible for assisting patrons in the Studio, training staff on Studio equipment, and collaborating with staff on Studio-related programming.

Essential Duties

  • In collaboration with sister departments and the branch, plans, provides, and evaluates technology and craft programming for the library
  • Instructs and assists patrons in the use of Studio equipment including the 3D printer, embroidery machine, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and photo printers, along with all associated software
  • Instructs and assists staff and patrons with computer, internet, device questions
  • Researches, recommends, and implements new Studio equipment and software
  • Builds relationships with community members and organizations to foster responsive programs, services, and spaces; conducts technology outreach
  • Provides input to Digital Services Manager on department budget
  • Assists with statistics and reports related to Studio use and technology programs
  • Works with Digital Services Manager to maintain, upgrade, and replace equipment for the Studio
  • Interprets and explains department and library policies and procedures to public
  • Engages in professional development activities to stay current with trends and best practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1-year experience in library makerspace, lab, or studio preferred or equivalent professional experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficient and comfortable with Studio equipment and software, Microsoft Office, web browsers, social media platforms, and common portable devices
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, IMLS' 21st Century Skills, and instructional design models
  • Knowledge of ALA's Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read statements
  • Well-organized and able to effectively juggle multiple priorities
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills and able to work effectively with others
  • Solid leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution, and training skills
  • Presents professional image within the community at various events
  • Ability to travel between district branches and to and from library sanctioned events required

Job Classification: Non-Exempt

Hours: 25 hours per week; must be available on Sundays and weekdays

Pay: $17.50 - $20.50 per hour, depending on experience
