LTE Summer Library Assistant I -Youth Services (2 positions)
Variable daily hours: Approx. 200-250 hours over course of the summer

These positions help patrons in the youth department during our busy summer programming time! Job duties include but are not limited to: reader’s advisory for patrons of all ages, reading program support, craft preparation, and program assistance.
Approx. start date – week of May 22 and approx. end date – week of August 7.
Approx. 15-20 hours per week for approx. 12 weeks.
Applicants must have flexible schedules (including some evenings and weekends) and experience working with children. Applicants with coursework or experience in library studies, education and/or child development preferred.
$18.64/hour, no benefits.

Essential Job Functions
- Assists patrons at the Children’s Desk with a variety of informational and technical needs.
- Performs reader’s advisory and ready reference.
- Assists with library programs and registering patrons.
- Assists with book displays
- Assists patrons with the operation of self-check, game and Internet stations.
- Assists with providing direction and guidance to teen library volunteers.
- Maintains the confidentiality of library records.
Requirements of Work
- Working knowledge of library methods and procedures.
- Ability to operate library equipment properly. Some previous library work experience is preferred.
- Maintains effective verbal and written communication with staff and public.
- Working knowledge of computers, Internet, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, audio-visual equipment, Microsoft Office Suite and LinkCat.
- High school degree is required. Additional education in library studies, education, or child development is preferred.
- Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work is performed in an office environment but does involve lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing and pulling objects on wheels weighing 60-80 pounds. Flexible work hours with frequent evening and weekend hours.
