The Opportunity:
The Legal Counsel I – Regulatory – will provide guidance on healthcare regulatory matters within the regulatory team in the Ensemble Legal Department. This position requires the associate to complete a wide variety of legal projects and legal research in support of the current and future growth plans for Ensemble.
Preferred candidates will have experience advising not-for-profit and for-profit health systems, physician groups, and other affiliated entities on complex state and federal healthcare fraud and abuse laws and regulations, billing and reimbursement matters, and conducting compliance investigations.
This position reports to the Associate General Counsel – Regulatory and will be responsible for understanding the daily operations of our client health systems, physician groups, and their affiliates and will be providing review and advice on statutory and regulatory issues, fraud and abuse considerations, compliance matters, government investigations, and reimbursement. Travel required.

Essential Job Functions
  • Experience advising not-for-profit and for-profit health care systems, physician groups, and affiliated entities in matters relating to the False Claims Act, Civil Monetary Penalties Law, HIPAA, Hi-Trust, Anti-Kickback Statute, billing and reimbursement, and related matters.
  • Excellent communication, drafting and writing skills, superior legal and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of handling complex, novel, high-value projects with broad organizational impact.
  • Proficient in researching statutes, regulations, caselaw, administrative guidelines, notices and hearings as needed to produce sound, comprehensive and creative legal arguments.
  • Provides advice and assistance to the AGC-Regulatory on corporate, legal and regulatory matters within the scope of the attorney's job.
  • Regularly review government agency statements, reports, interim final rules, regulatory guidelines, and pending federal and state legislation for application and/or impact to revenue cycle.
  • Articulate complex issues and provide education and/or advisement that is clear, concise, and actionable.
  • Assesses and mitigates risk; reports any identified business exposure and associated risks as well as mitigation techniques being utilized.
  • Frequently interacts with other internal legal, compliance, and business stakeholders across functional groups, as well as specialized outside counsel.

Employment Qualifications
  • JD
Other Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • At least 1 year of healthcare regulatory and compliance experience
  • Active license to practice law in good standing in at least one state
  • 1-3 years relevant experience
  • Exceedingly detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated
  • Confidence to respond to inquiries from clients, senior leadership, and other partners in line with the requirements of individual scopes of work
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability with work with other attorneys, operators, and representatives of clients
  • Internal drive to succeed and motivate those around them
  • Adaptability to rapid growth and progressing environment within a corporate setting
  • Understanding of revenue cycle management
