GW Hospital is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC. Featuring a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level 3 NICU offers clinical expertise in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neurosciences, women’s health, and advanced surgery including robotic and minimally invasive surgery. Primary care and specialty outpatient care are available through the Medical Faculty Associates, a multi-specialty physician practice group of more than 750 physicians covering 51 specialty and subspecialty areas. The Medical Faculty Associates' doctors have offices in the Ambulatory Care Center, an outpatient clinic building located one block from the hospital.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, schedules all division surgeries. Proficient in-patient scheduling, professional telephone etiquette and customer satisfaction in support of the mission of GWUH. Surgical scheduler duties involve scheduling for hospital outpatient/inpatient along with Ambulatory Surgery Center along with changing and cancelling appointments. Acts as a preceptor for new team members. Facilitator between the hospitals and offices that are scheduling cases. Communications and provides updates to the scheduling offices. Ability to effectively function as a member of a collaborative team. Ability to independently organize and manage time effectively, setting appropriate priorities. Schedules and coordinates all elective surgical procedures allowing adequate time for each procedure according to the Physicians historical time. Obtain and enters the necessary booking information from the surgeon’s office accurately. Attempts to schedule similar type cases in the same room to increase efficiency. Communicates special equipment, instrument, and supply requests to appropriate associates. Refers conflicts and procedural questions to OR Clinical Coordinator or designee. Obtains missing patient information, equipment needs, CPT codes and special request from physician’s office for a complete and accurate surgical posting. Communicate any changes affecting the next day surgical schedule to the Scheduling Supervisor, OR Clinical Coordinator or designee and other members of the health team affected by the changes. Develop and promotes a constructive, positive atmosphere withing the work area by demonstrating the ability to maintain cooperation with and assist fellow team members. Will attempt to consolidate the schedule as much as possible, closing open gaps whenever possible. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Qualification
  • Minimum of five (5) years of current experience in a hospital admitting and registration department preferred or a combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Associate degree or Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification
