The Lead Researcher - Water Services Microbiology Applications demonstrates leadership in executing on business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role, you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities

• Strong technical understanding of microscopy, molecular biology, and culture based techniques to quantify microorganisms in water samples, deposits, or surfaces

• Generate planktonic or sessile test samples from ATCC or field cultures in the laboratory. Perform testing on laboratory or customer samples to enumerate microbiological activity and to determine the efficacy of chemical programs aimed at reducing or eliminating planktonic or sessile microbes from the samples.

• Support technical projects through design, analysis, and evaluation using sound microbiological/molecular biology-based principles

• Provide technical support to transition new products from the technology development phase to customer applications.

• Conduct /participate in laboratory and customer site evaluations of new and existing products.

• Develop, commercialize, and support innovative chemical solutions for Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions Water Services customers

• Assess and validate market needs through direct interactions with external and internal customers including Product Applications, Product Management and Sales teams
• As part of a development team, contribute to idea generation, conduct experiments, and review results
• As project leader, lead technical development effort including planning and execution of experimental approach, analyzing data, monitoring and communicating project status, and aligning resources to achieve goals and hit project milestones
• Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound scientific principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
• Provide technical product support, customer service and non-routine problem solving for above industrial applications

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Biochemical Engineering

• At least 5 years of hands on experience in laboratory techniques to grow culture microbiological samples, testing techniques to evaluate planktonic and sessile samples, and knowledge of/experience in the control of biofouling via the use of biocides in water treatment applications.

• Strong environmental, health and safety ethics

Desired Characteristics

• Masters or PhD Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Biochemical Engineering

• 7-10 years of experience in microbiological control for industrial applications with water treatment expertise.

• Experience with laboratory techniques to grow microorganisms in water or on surfaces, techniques to quantify bacteria or algae from laboratory or field samples, and knowledge of biocidal actives used to reduce or eliminate microorganisms in water systems or from surfaces in contact with water.

• Experience setting up an MB lab & associated safety requirements
