Job Summary
Responsible for the daily coordination and guidance of the phlebotomy staff within the clinical laboratories. This includes all phlebotomy procedures, courier and patient concerns. Serve as a subject matter expert of all clinical and service accountabilities within the designated laboratory. Serve as the ambassador to lead the laboratory system safety, quality and customer service initiatives. This person reports to the Regional Laboratory Directory or Laboratory Manager. Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of a certified phlebotomy program or a Medical Assistant (MA) program

Licenses/Certifications:

Phlebotomy certification or Donor Phlebotomy certification required by approved medical trade school program approved agency:
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) Board of Certification
  • American Certification Agency (ACA)
  • American Medical Technologist (AMT)
  • National Healthcare Association (NHA)
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or American Society of Phlebotomy Technician (ASPT)

CPR certification required.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Five (5) years of lab experience; customer service experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications and strong computer skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Serves as a trainer, resource, mentor and/or preceptor to other laboratory employees and students in the areas of technology, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, Performance Improvement, production efficiency, and customer service.
  • Reports on trends of service failures for improvement to the Regional Manager and Director.
  • Updates and assists with implementation all new team communications and education efforts, including regulatory and billing requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge on updates and changes with Clinic Care 4 and other required systems.
  • Responds and assists in the resolution of patient issues and concerns as the first escalation level.
  • Serves as a local liaison and resource for the Diagnostic Laboratory Technician in problem-solving activities related to outreach specimen collection, processing, reporting and courier services.
  • Helps maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Works with the quality assurance (QA) coordinator/Manager on the collection of QA data and the identification of opportunities for improvement.
  • Works with the Clinical Coordinator in the creation and implementation of all outreach education and training; in conjunction with the Manager, performs 30/60/90 day feedback with new hires.
  • Performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PI process; demonstrates leadership in customer service/satisfaction and in Laboratory Performance Improvement.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and system; understands, communicates and complies with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies.
  • Champions the system and department customer service initiatives in the region. Recognizes customer satisfaction issues and responds appropriately. Builds and maintains effective relationships with other employees.
  • Works to develop effective relationship with all internal and external customers by soliciting input and assisting the Manager to implement mutually satisfying corrective actions.
  • Providing support to leadership with personnel performance and behavior expectations.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
