Job description

An employee in this class performs a variety of grounds maintenance and landscape functions to include mowing, edging, lawn watering, seeding and sprigging grass, spreading fertilizers, dispensing herbicides, raking, pruning, weeding, tilling and various other grounds maintenance duties. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Landscaping Crew Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities Work

Essential Duties and Tasks

· Performs mowing, edging, lawn watering, seeding, and sprigging grass, spreading fertilizers, dispensing herbicides, raking, pruning, weeding, tilling and various other grounds maintenance duties

· Maintains trees, shrubs, and flower beds by planting, pruning, trimming, removing weeds, and safely applying appropriate herbicides

· Assists in the maintenance of the city operated cemetery

· Performs various maintenance duties on equipment and facilities utilized

· Operates various types of assigned grounds maintenance equipment, tractor, mower, chain saw, edger, tiller, weed eater, and other equipment as required

· Assists with other public works crews as needed

Recruitment and Selection Guidelines

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Good knowledge of pesticide applications

· Some knowledge of flowers, trees, shrubs and landscaping activities

· Some knowledge of the operation, care and maintenance of assigned equipment

· Skilled in the operation of assigned equipment

· Ability to work independently in the performance of duties

· Ability to use initiative and good judgment in work performance

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

· Ability to operate assigned equipment effectively

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public

· Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26,269.00 - $32,786.00 per year
