The Tehachapi Cement Plant is looking for Laborers. The hourly rate for this position is $23.42.

The successful candidate will perform, under close supervision, a variety of general labor work required in or about the plant. Secondary Function: Relieve employees in other classifications, when properly trained.

Typical Working Procedure:

• Perform plant cleaning, shovel work, wheel barrel work, scaling, jackhammer work.
• Unload coal, bricks or any other incoming materials which require considerable handling.
• Pick up scrap and debris from plant grounds/facilities.
• Dig ditches and make excavations.
• Mix and handle concrete, refractory.
• Work at elevation, with authorized safety equipment
• Furnish manual labor required in relining kiln, such as hauling, hoisting or passing bricks.
• Sweep floors and perform other cleanup work as required.
• Assist departmental control room operators.
• Load cement or other material to be shipped from the plant.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Equipment Used: shovel, pick, manlift, jackhammer/chipping hammer, bar, rake, hand Truck, wheelbarrow, vacuum truck, street sweeper, water truck, bobcat, forklift, skidsteer, etc.

General Requirements: Must be able to perform all technical aspects of the job by using all tools or systems required to perform work. Must understand and apply all administration and safety procedures throughout the plant including equipment inspections, completing checklists and submitting documents to assigned supervisor.

Manufacturing Operations: Monitor and perform field inspections on equipment. Understand safe operation of a variety of mobile equipment, including loaders, haul trucks, manlifts and forklifts.

Material Handling: Material handling includes the use and implementation of equipment in support of Plant Mechanical Maintenance Person work, and will include heavy manual and machine assisted lifting.

General Plant Equipment: Conveying equipment and associated systems (belt conveyor, drag chain/s, elevators, air slides, screw conveyors), gas and related equipment (fan, airlock, FK pump, dust collector, compressor), water related equipment (pumps, filters, valves), area plant equipment (crusher, cooler, mills, kiln) and associated plant equipment (drives, hydraulics, couplings, cooling).

Safety, Security and Area Inspections: Reports to Process Control or Field Supervisor any observed safety, security or hazardous conditions. Participates in and successfully completes new miner training and annual refresher to meet Plant regulatory requirements.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met daily by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, write, talk and hear English. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, hand, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms at or above shoulder height, stand, walk, climb or balance on stairs and ladders, wear a harness/lanyard, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl within cramped and confined space. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Work Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold and heat and outside weather conditions, including uneven ground, mud, ice and snow. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to electricity, loud noise and falling objects.
