Summary

The Department of Pathology is seeking an experienced biologist to serve as a lab manager and research technician for the laboratory of Dr. Russell Ryan, MD. In addition to general lab management responsibilities, the successful applicant will assist in projects related to functional genomics and transcriptional regulation in lymphoid malignancies. The Ryan Lab utilizes cutting-edge tools for the genome-wide analysis of enhancer function and regulation in normal and malignant lymphocytes.

Work will be performed at the Ryan lab, which was established in July 2017. The lab is primarily affiliated with the University of Michigan Department of Pathology, and is located in the Rogel Cancer Center building in the U-M Medical Campus.

Responsibilities*

Biological research technician duties (70% of time) may include:

  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Basic molecular biology techniques (plasmid preparation, cloning, mutagenesis)
  • Maintaining mouse colonies (patient-derived leukemia mouse models)
  • Lentivirus production and use for genetic manipulation of cell lines
  • Targeted genome editing or manipulation (CRISPR-Cas9 system)
  • Chromatin immunoprecipitation of histone marks and transcription factors (ChIP-Seq)
  • Next-generation sequencing library preparation and data production
  • Retrieving and processing human lymphoma samples from tissue or blood.

Lab manager duties (30% of time) will include:

  • Ordering, organizing and inventorying research equipment and materials
  • Scientific and administrative record-keeping
  • Personnel on-boarding and off-boarding

All work and data must be meticulously recorded and organized

Required Qualifications*

BA or BS, with a concentration in the biological sciences and one to two years of research laboratory experience, pre- or post-graduation

Desired Qualifications*

Experience in mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques strongly preferred.

Experience in computational data analysis (Linux, Python, R) is desirable and may qualify the applicant for the higher level of the job classification.

Background Screening
