In addition to your base salary, this position is eligible for a 5% King County Premium Pay.

Washington State Patrol : Toxicology Laboratory
The Toxicology Laboratory performs drug and alcohol testing for coroners, medical examiners, law enforcement agencies, prosecuting attorneys, and the State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) in all 39 Washington counties.

Laboratory Technician 2 (LT2)
As an LT2 you will provide quality assurance and technical support to the Toxicology Laboratory Division (TLD), including maintaining equipment and instrumentation, documenting measurement traceability, and assisting with maintenance of laboratory accreditation. You will ensure forensic scientists have the standards, materials, and equipment needed to efficiently perform evidential analysis.

Duties

  • Perform quality assurance procedures necessary to ensure the laboratory’s compliance with accreditation requirements and forensic toxicology standards.
  • Prepare volatile and drug standards used in analysis and ensure documentation of traceability and verification.
  • Perform and document quality control verifications of critical reagents and supplies.
  • Perform and appropriately document verification of standard materials using sample preparation techniques.
  • Perform and appropriately document instrument and equipment maintenance, performance checks, batch control monitoring, and calibration schedules.
  • Participate in and appropriately document temperature monitoring processes, including unit maintenance and periodic NIST calibration checks.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of service technicians for laboratory equipment, including preventative maintenance.
  • Collate and maintain/archive equipment maintenance records.
  • Provide administrative assistance as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency with two years of experience as a laboratory technician 1.
OR
  • Associates degree in biology, chemistry, lab technology, micro or molecular biology. (may substitute for up to one year as a laboratory technician 1).
  • Valid, unrestricted Washington state driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory tools such as pipettes and balances.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc).
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the state as necessary.
