The Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a full-time Laboratory Specialist position and participate as an integral member of Dr. James Stone's research laboratory. The incumbent will perform lab specialist duties necessary for the execution of required elements of an extramural award that will explore questions related to precision medicine and traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Stone's laboratory focuses upon military-relevant traumatic brain injury, and his laboratory is one of the leading programs in the country exploring the neurological correlates of traumatic brain injury in military service members. A component of this work involves studying preclinical/translational models of traumatic brain injury to better understand the pathophysiological underpinnings of this disease process.

One of these extramural projects will explore questions related to precision medicine and traumatic brain injury. The Lab Specialist will support these efforts by performing responsibilities critical to the conduct of this program.


Specific responsibilities include:
  • Researching, compiling, and maintaining numerical and computerized reports.
  • Assisting in evaluation of research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives.
  • Providing basic assistance to researchers in manipulating, computing, and analyzing data.
  • Engaging in model creation activities.
  • Performing responsibilities involving animal handling.
  • Collecting data associated with the research.
  • Performing initial data interpretation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation.
