The Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory Manager provides services to support the heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas and living donor transplant programs. As an HLA Lab team member, the HLA lab manager is responsible for the daily operations and the direct oversight of the lab’s technical and support staff. Will serve as the HLA Lab liaison to the Transplant Service Line for clinical questions, interpretation of test results, and staff education relating to HLA testing. Serves as the primary contact between the HLA Lab and Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).

  • Provides leadership and manages day-to-day operations of the HLA Lab including scheduling, work assignments, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, staff development, participates in workflow management, and hiring.
  • Works on interdisciplinary teams and projects to further the overall goals of the Transplant Service Line and develops others professionally.
  • Responsible for ensuring the lab maintains the highest quality standards and compliance with regulatory bodies (e.g. CLIA, ASHI, etc)
  • Function as an expert technical resource and be accessible to testing personnel at all times. Testing is performed to provide primarily onsite supervision and telephone or electronic consultation as needed to resolve technical problems in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Be able to perform bench testing or on-call assignments when needed
  • Analyze and evaluate results, and generate and evaluate clinical reports. Perform final review of test results and related documents generated by staff. Sign out reports to next-level review or the laboratory director.
  • Review quality assurance and quality control data and take corrective action as needed. Maintain documentation and ensure that regulatory requirements are met. Work with Transplant Service Line’s Quality Office to ensure coordination of quality metrics with the Transplant Management Team and the programs’ medical and surgical directors.
  • Write, review, and edit protocols and procedures; maintain procedure manuals.
  • Oversee completion of equipment maintenance, instrumentation calibration, quality control, and documentation, and ensure adequate supplies and equipment. Embrace innovation and organizational changes to improve effectiveness of the lab.
  • Models effective communication and collaboration with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the institutions ASPIRE values.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $81,078.40 - $129,729.60 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Science; Master’s Degree preferred

Experience: Five years of relevant experience

Licensure: CHS (ASHI) Required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).

Repetitive motion: computer use. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, radiation (in limited specific areas), blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
