Description:

The Testing Clinic support role is primarily responsible for the general customer service and patient care duties for the Collection Center. These include greeting and receiving outpatients, visitors and physicians, handling phone calls, placing test orders, collecting and labeling specimens, answering questions from all customers, and maintaining various files. The Lab Assistant main responsibilities include nasal swabs, outpatient venipunctures, and EKG's.
  • Greets and receives all outpatients, staff, and physicians to the Testing Clinic.
  • Verifies patient demographics and scheduled appointment. Answers phone calls and, when indicated, transfers phone calls to the appropriate staff. In accordance with department policy.
  • Performs duties related to registering patients in the hospital computer system, including scanning orders, verifying patient information, printing labels and preparing patient packets.
  • Assists in cost containment by maintaining an adequate quantity of supplies for the Collection Center.
  • Prepares testing kits in preparation for patient testing needs per department demand.
  • Follows proper safety procedures required for donning and doffing of protective equipment when performing specimen collection duties.
  • Assist with doffing observation of collection site team members to ensure proper doffing has occurred.
  • Arranges interpretive services as needed to meet patient needs. Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
  • Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
  • Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
  • Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Holy Cross Health reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Behaviors of Excellence.
  • Supports and abides by all departmental, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.
  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department head.

Minimum Qualifications :

To have a High school diploma or equivalent.

Be a graduate of an approved Phlebotomy program and/or have a minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience in an acute care hospital

Have excellent customer service skills. To have excellent organizational skills

  • minimum of 1 year EKG experience preferred
