We are recruiting the perfect candidate for a brand-new position created as a result of SB 5175: Firefighter Injury and Illness Reductions Initiative (FIIRE) established to promote best practices and improve firefighter safety and health.

In this critical position, you will support project management and program development efforts for agency-wide implementation of the FIIRE initiative, including working with several program areas and external stakeholders to ensure successful program implementation while contributing an innovative approach using project management expertise and thought leadership. Working together with Ergonomists, Industrial Hygienists, and Risk Management specialists to accomplish the goals of the project establishing best practices to improve safety and health outcomes for firefighters. You will be a vital component to the performance of L&I's Division of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) and the delivery of quality services to the department as well as the citizens of Washington State contributing to L&I's mission to "Keep Washington Safe and Working!" by spending a considerable amount of time interacting directly with stakeholders in the firefighting and emergency medical services community through online and in-person meetings.

The position is located in Tumwater, WA with some telework allowed in addition to statewide travel.

Duties

Some of what you’ll do:


  • Organize and lead projects working with stakeholder groups to develop best management practices for areas of priority.
  • Identify key milestones and deliverables in the FIIRE Initiative and Evaluate ensure timely implementation of the requirements of the FIIRE Program.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the FIIRE initiative.
  • Program expert for questions and training regarding risk management and return to work.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, seminars and/or workshops to committees, legislative bodies, advisory groups, and/or public and private organizations.
  • Gather relevant data from surveys, quarterly reports, workers compensation databases,
    and other internal data sources, as well as directly from fire departments.
  • Compile data and format reports for various audiences, including L&I management, the legislature, and fire departments.
  • Assist Fire Departments with injury claim questions, understanding workers compensation rates and experience ratings.
  • Provide virtual or onsite training to Fire Departments on topics related to risk management, return to work and workers compensation insurance.
  • Provide guidance and management of content for FIIRE website and Fire Fighter Health and Safety Collaborative Website. Manage FIIRE program budget and grant process.
  • Contribute to informational and collaborative meetings with FIIRE program participants and stakeholders.
  • Takes part in grant review and approval process from application through distribution of funds.
  • Review FIIRE enrollment application materials, and assist fire department personnel in
    completing and submitting the necessary documentation.
  • Communicate with FIIRE and other L&I staff to ensure that all forms are signed and filed according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Revise SOPs whenever application procedures are updated.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:


  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver license and may not have convictions for driving under the influence or driving offenses that endangered or harmed others within the past 7 years.
  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in a related field including planning, policy analysis, coordination and consultation with a variety of public and private agencies, organizations, and/or levels of government.
OR
  • Master’s degree and two years of experience, in a related field including planning, policy analysis, coordination and consultation with a variety of public and private agencies, organizations, and/or levels of government.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted year for year in lieu of education.

  • Verbal and Written Communication - Expresses ideas and information through the verbal and written word using language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the audience.
  • Using Personal Computers - Competent in the use of personal computers, including software such as word processing, PowerPoint, Excel and other programs, to produce timely and accurate work products that fully satisfy the demands of the assignment.
