Purpose:

The kiln and boiler coordinator will oversee all aspects of lumber drying process including safety training, boiler operaton, kiln operation, quality control, maintenance projects, water chemistry, and other duties aisgned by the Production Manager. The kiln and boiler coordinator will be responsible for establishing the kiln drying schedules of all lumber processed through the facility. Insuring the drying controls are in line with established parameters for each species. Performing hot checks of each kiln charge and verifying with kiln/boiler technicians the appropriate set up. Working with fork lift operators to load and unload charges in a timely manner and insuring they are processed to the correct location. The kiln and boiler coordinator will be excpected to attend training classes and continuing education workshops. Essential Duties:

· Delegates tasks to other kiln and forklift operators as necessary and at the direction of the production manager.

· Monitors and makes corrections to kiln and/or furnace push timing utilizing computer software.

· Controls dry kilns to dry lumber to specified moisture content.

· Measures moisture content of lumber preparatory to drying, using moisture meter, or cuts, weighs, and places lumber samples in curing oven and reweighs samples periodically as they are drying to determine rate and percentage of moisture reduction.

· Ensures that kilns are turned in a timely manner as specified by the production manager.

· Determines drying cycle and schedule, considering factors such as species, thickness, and quantity of lumber to be dried, initial moisture content of lumber, or moisture reduction rate of lumber samples.

· Trains new forklift operatores and kiln technicians as needed.

· Holds daily safety meetings.

· Approves all time off requests and manages direct reports attendance.

· Coaches and disciplines when situations require.

· Reads recording gauges and weighs lumber samples periodically during drying process and readjusts temperature and humidity controls to regulate moisture reduction rate and avoid damage to lumber.

· Measures moisture content of lumber at completion of drying cycle, using moisture meter, to ensure that specified amount of moisture has been removed.

· Records required information for the DEQ and keeps proper records.

· Changes graphs on pen-graph recorders as required.Performs routine basic maintenance operations on kiln and/or furnaces as required.

· Restarts the kiln and/or furnaces in the event of a power outage or when surge occurs.

· Must be willing to work any and all shifts/days as required.

Education / Experience / Certification

· High School Diploma/GED (or higher).

· Minimum 1 year experience kiln drying lumber.

· Experience driving forklift in a manufacturing environment, preferred

· 2 years of supervisory experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Familiarity with computers. Training of shipping computer and scanner.

Ability to participate as a team member and proactive in process environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
