JRAD is seeking a Junior Researcher for an immediate fill position located in Belcamp, MD.


Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide variety of activities and operations in support of test and evaluation laboratory.
  • Serve as Analyst, Operator and/or Investigator for laboratory projects and experiments, including chemical testing, vapor generation experiments, unique detection sensor testing, commercial off the shelf (COTS) detector testing, and detector experiments.
  • Provide support in sample processing and analysis utilizing Gas Chromatography/Flame Photometric Detector (GC/FPD), Gas Chromatography/Flame Ionization Detector (GC/FID) and specialized detection technologies.
  • Apply experience in science theory, principles, concepts, standards, and methods sufficient to analyze and evaluate detector testing and project development phases and apply experimental theories and new applications to extend or modify theories, concepts, and assumptions.
  • Modify and/or improve upon standard practices, equipment, devices, processes, and known techniques to meet unique testing requirements.
  • Participate in design of experiments including preparing analytical standards, determining desired standards range, preparing samples and analyzing samples against prepared standards to determine target compound concentrations.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation necessary to support laboratory testing, to include Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Internal Operating Procedures (IOPs), reports, presentations and other documentation as needed


Required Skills and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biology
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Experience working with Agilent Gas Chromatographs and Agilent’s OpenLab ChemStation software
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft EXCEL
  • Knowledge, training and/or experience in laboratory devices, technologies, and instrumentation (e.g., analytical balance, pipettors, digital thermometers, etc.) that are relevant to laboratory experimentation work.


Security Clearance:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance at the Secret level.
