This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Junior Environmental Scientist with 2-5 years experience performing environmental site investigation, restoration, and remediation, preferably with some experience with DoD facilities. This position will be located in the Portland, OR office, with opportunity for hybrid work. WSP’s Pacific Northwest Remediation Team offers environmental investigation, remediation, and related services to a diverse set of clients, including industrial/commercial companies, local and state agencies, and the federal government. Project locations are local, regional, and nationwide. We have in-house experts in chemistry, risk assessment, data management, graphics/GIS, geology, hydrogeology, hydraulics and hydrology, engineering, and industrial hygiene who support projects in the Pacific Northwest and many other locations, and have access to subject matter experts worldwide. The position requires a self-motivated candidate able to work as part of local, regional, or national project teams, and offers flexible work locations and schedule.

Your Impact

This person will work under supervision as part of project teams to help solve problems and document solutions, express ideas through strong technical writing and verbal communication, and support technical reports, plans, and calculations in a consulting environment. The position will include work on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects, with substantial emphasis on soil, soil vapor/gas, groundwater, surface water, and stormwater investigations and remediation systems; chemical fate and transport assessment; hazardous waste management; permitting; and site planning. This person will be a member or leader of teams providing environmental consulting services to commercial and government clients and will perform complex technical tasks under oversight of more experienced technical reviewers/directors as appropriate. This position provides opportunity for career growth over time, and the ideal candidate will be excited about the opportunity to help grow our environmental consulting business and possess knowledge and technical skills in Federal, Oregon and Washington regulations.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, or related discipline
  • 1 to 3 years of environmental consulting experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Consistent and highly accurate project work
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
  • Comfortable working within both small and large project teams to achieve objectives
  • Demonstrated proficiency leading small teams and managing project tasks
  • Ability to work in industrial and field environments as well as in the office
  • Flexible to work outside of business hours, when necessary
  • Proficiency with MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook, in particular
  • Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) required.
  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
