The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) C4ISR Systems Division is growing its cyber team. SDL is looking for junior cyber operations analysts to assist our customer in defining their defensive cyber operations (DCO) paradigms for non-traditional information systems. The most important characteristic the successful candidate will have: technical creativity.

SDL works with the Department of Defense and industry to create novel solutions that impact national defense in space, air, land, and sea. We are very team oriented and collaborative. We are hiring two candidates for this position.

Education

Recent graduate with a BA/BS in IS, IT, computer science, engineering, or similar. Coursework should include at least one class in cyber. Certifications in security operations or defensive analysis are a bonus. Experience in-lieu of degree will be evaluated.

Experience

Minimum

Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

1 year of experience through course projects, classes, training, internships, or work in at least three of the following:

  • MITRE ATT&CK Framework
  • Lockheed Martin Cyber Kill-Chain
  • Threat modeling (e.g., STRIDE, PASTA)
  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools
  • Data analysis and dashboard creation (tools like Splunk, PowerBI, Kibana, Tableau, spreadsheets, SQL, etc)
  • Threat hunting
  • Network evasion and tunneling
  • IoT devices
  • Linux or Windows hardening or attacks
  • Zero Trust Architecture concepts
  • Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)
  • Firewall setup, administration, or event logging
  • Software development/scripting
  • Software or system testing
  • Agile project management tools like Atlassian

Preferred

Experience in one or more of the following

  • Cyber-focused internship or experience
  • Data-focused internship or experience
  • Experience in security competitions, CTFs
  • Kali Linux or some penetration testing experience
  • Active security clearance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement cyber threat mitigation strategies and solutions in various defensive cyber tools alongside customer and SDL cyber engineers
  • Create threat analysis dashboards and analytics
  • Develop and support internal security services and infrastructure as a team member
  • Identify unusual system activity
  • Monitor security sensors and SIEM infrastructure
  • Ensure timely communication of events

What you will learn in this position

  • Make recommendations to improve processes and procedures
  • Design and build DCO tools and infrastructure
  • How to study threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures and apply good defensive strategies to respond to those TTPs
  • Improve analysis techniques to shorten response timelines
  • Create playbooks for activities spanning DCO, like incident response.
