Journeyman Electrician

Working under minimal supervision, this is an advanced level position assigned to different operations and service departments. This position is required to manage their own time and schedule and provide proposals and/or quotes as required. Performs skilled maintenance work and assists other Maintenance Technicians in performing corrective work orders, preventative maintenance and manual tasks such as moving equipment, offices and materials. This will be accomplished by performing on-site routine maintenance and assisting with duties including but not limited to the Essential, Intermediate, and Advanced Functions listed below.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to create and manage work proposals and/or quotes.
  • Manage lifecycle of electrical project work.
  • Install, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and fixtures
  • Install various types of raceway and cable tray systems
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical wiring and systems
  • Perform electrical work in a neat, organized and timely manner
  • Knowledge and operational experience with low voltage control systems
  • Ability to mentor, coach and apprentice developing technicians
  • Assist with commissioning activities during new project implementation
  • Supports planning, design and construction projects as subject matter expert
  • Develops preventative maintenance schedules to keep equipment operating smoothly
  • Identifies and procures supplies, tools, parts and materials for system repairs
  • Ability to consult and make recommendations for replacements and purchase of equipment as necessary, understanding the lifecycle of capital projects for both the client and company
  • Create purchase orders / requisition items needed for site
  • Read and comprehend blueprints, plans, and schematics
  • Supports and assists clients and tenants, with building communications and work coordination
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Computer skills - complete spreadsheets, incident report writing, correspondence with clients, and responding via email and text
  • Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) - open and close work orders, create preventative maintenance schedules, input equipment data and run reports as needed.
  • Complies with all applicable codes, regulations and corporate policies/procedures related to building operations and work safety
  • Performs and/or assists with corrective work orders and preventative maintenance work orders as directed
  • Have strong communication skills via text, email, telephone, and face to face. Respond to daily Client/Tenant requests and internal company requests in a timely, professional manner
  • Maintain basic paperwork according to client/tenant needs
  • Basic knowledge of building & lab management systems
  • Escort vendors and contractors
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Schedule subject to change, remaining flexible within reasonable notice
  • 24/7 Response if applicable

Requirements

  • If hired directly into this level position, applicant must have five or more years of combined academic and work experience working in the following settings: laboratory, mechanical, facilities maintenance or construction.
  • If hired directly into this level position, all training/certifications listed must be completed prior to start date
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
  • Ability to follow orders given orally and in writing
  • Ability to complete tasks and paperwork with basic supervision
  • Computer skills (i.e., excel, word, outlook)
  • Massachusetts Journeyman License
  • OSHA 10 hour
  • General Lab Safety
  • General Maintenance Safety
  • The nature of our business has worksites in a number of locations in the Greater Boston area. We expect our employees to remain flexible, and travel between sites may be necessary as the business demands.

  • Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and shop environments.
  • Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, cleaning products and noise.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to perform the following repetitive movements: stand, walk, sit, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear. Ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of office and facilities equipment (cleaning products, tools, and ladders) and trash and the ability to safely use equipment provided. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Climb a ladder to perform repairs.
