Johnson/Somervell County Community Supervision and Corrections Department Director

Salary: Up to $130,500 Depending on Experience

General Summary

The Director is appointed by the District Judges of the 18 th , 249 th , and 413 th Judicial Districts, as well as the Johnson County Court-at-Law Judges, in compliance with the standards established by Chapter 76 of the Texas Government Code. Director is responsible, in accordance with the applicable statutes, directives from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and Court policies, for the Community Supervision and Corrections program of the Courts served.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and day to day management of the operations of the Department
  • Maintain Department’s full compliance with all standards, statutes and ethics as detailed in the Texas Administrative Code, Government Code, TDCJ-CJAD Standards and Financial Management Manual as well as all other State and Federal Statutes.
  • Responsible for cost effective development, coordinate the preparation and implement the Department budgets with fiscal responsibility.
  • Negotiate and enter into contracts on behalf of and benefitting the Department in accordance with State laws and requirements of TDCJ-CJAD.
  • Responsible for the continued administration and development of standards, procedures and policies for the overall work of the Department.
  • Carefully select community supervision officers, assistants and other employees to carry on the core services of the Department. Oversee all personnel actions such as promotions, terminations, grievances and disciplinary matters.
  • Submit all required and or requested reports timely to TDCJ-CJAD. Insure all program records and statistical data is consistent with the requirements of the law and TDCJ-CJAD standards.
  • Professionally represent the Department in meetings and committees with TDCJ-CJAD, other government entities, other CSCDs, Civic and Social Service organizations, and the public.
  • Performs such other related tasks as may be required by the Courts and/or TDCJ-CJAD.

Minimum Qualifications

Texas Government Code 76.004, 76.005, as well as Texas Administrative Code Title 37 Part 6 Rules 163.21 & 163.33 require the Judges to appoint a CSCD Director who must meet, at minimum, the eligibility requirements for officers.

  • A bachelors’ degree conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  • Cannot be employed as a peace officer, or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officer
  • Be eligible to supervise offenders in accordance with Texas Criminal Justice Information Services Access policy.
  • Become certified and attend professional training in accordance with CJIS Access Policy.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 10 years of experience with CSCD, plus a minimum of 5 years prior administrative/supervision experience.
  • Expert knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures related to effective community supervision.
  • Experience in/Knowledge of preparing and implementing annual budget, funding requests, and overall financial oversight.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills used with employees, elected and appointed officials, and the public.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in successfully directing or assisting in community supervision or related field.
  • Ability to exercise good judgments and decision-making.
  • Read, analyze, interpret and follow standards, policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

Working Conditions

  • This position typically requires manual dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Performing essential functions typically requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.
  • Travel to other offices or professional events with in the County and outside of County boundaries required.
  • May be exposed to various changes in outside or inside climatic or environmental conditions.
