The Home for Little Wanderers is seeking a Job Coach to support special education students in work, educational, and residential settings at their Southeast Campus, Plymouth, MA location. Seeking a professional with a background in special education and supporting students between the ages of 12-22 with developing work skills. Successful candidate should be a flexible individual interested in working in an innovative and dynamic setting in collaboration with both the educational team and members of the community.


How You’ll Be Making A Difference

  • Responsible for providing on-site and community-based supports to students in a variety of community settings
  • Direct supervision and monitoring of students in community and employment training settings to ensure well-being and safety of the student always
  • Consistently model appropriate work maturity skills and hold students to the same expectations
  • Monitor students work performance and provide feedback and prompts when needed
  • Ensure safety is always being maintained in the work environment
  • Maintain and model positive, professional working relationships with students and business owners
  • Ability to apply professional standards of conduct in all professional relationships
  • Assist students to appropriately access community settings
  • Assist students in employment training through job coaching
  • Communicate effectively with employers and co-workers to ensure students are integrated into the work environment
  • Work with students in community or residential setting by providing the supports as outlined by the Principal / Special Education Administrator
  • Familiarize employers and co-workers with the needs of students and model appropriate interactions
  • Assist in preparation and inventory of instructional and employment training materials utilized in community setting
  • May plan and participate in activities with clients/students on an individual and small group (less than 6) level in accordance with treatment plans and goals. Teach age-appropriate life skills and social skills through modeling, counseling, and other techniques. Participate in groups and activities designed to enhance growth and development.
  • Participate in off campus recreational/educational activities
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment. Manage living, dining, educational, recreational areas to provide a clean, organized environment for students. Insure adequate supervision of students through coordination of care with other staff.
  • Provide group and individual behavior support and intervention as trained, including the use of TCI appropriate physical restraint as necessary. Coordinate medical and emergency situations with the supervisor.
  • Work in close communication with Vocational Coordinator and provide information to inform the teacher about student needs and progress
  • Keep informed about and conduct and maintain data collection, which may include attendance, data on IEP goals, daily tracking forms, and other forms for educational program as directed by the Special Education Administrator
  • Assist students with personal care needs in community or employment training settings as necessary
  • Assist students with travel training
  • Attend and actively participate in program or Team meetings as requested
  • Promote student access and independence in community and employment training settings through modeling and monitoring
  • Assist students to acquire positive social behaviors in both the community and employment training settings
  • Schedule may include evening or weekend hours to support student employment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with students receiving special education services with a wide range of disabilities including cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral deficits.
  • Ability to work confidently and effectively
  • Serve as a chief source of information and assisting any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to calmly and effectively respond to urgent or emergency situations.
  • Retail experience preferred but not required.
