, is seeking experienced Java Developers to consider joining our Child Support Technology Team as a Java Software Developer (Information Systems Specialist 6). In this role you, you will be a part of a team that provides expertise and initiative in all aspects of the system development life cycle including design, planning, construction, implementation, operations, and maintenance of enterprise solutions to support the programs case management system called Origin. Join us and dive into Origin systems analysis, technology planning and design, coding, as well as maintenance and operations of the Origin system. This position may require on-call and after hours support of the Origin batch process.

Duties (in part):
  • Support systems and interfaces used by federal, state, and local partners across multiple systems.
  • Ensure version compatibility between new releases of DOJ supported system, components, and current operating environments.
  • Coordinate with vendors, other agencies, external partners, customers and technology staff to implement solutions.
  • Monitor and evaluate system security, performance and implement modifications/adjustments as needed to meet DOJ standards and industry best practices.
  • Perform rotational batch cycle duties which may include after hours or shift modifications in order to support the Origin System.
  • Develop or modify software and systems to support changed/re-engineered business processes using department standard development toolsets and techniques.
  • Incorporate application security best practices into an application’s design and architecture which include FTI, PII and COI.
  • Implement/integrate new versions or new software that automates unusual or new business processes.
  • Analyze and correct version issues.
  • Contributes to the design, development of standards, business processes, software architecture and strategic direction of the Technical Services section.
  • Design and develop new architectures for deploying applications to support internal and external customers.
  • Research and utilize new technologies to maximize business value.
  • Integrate with external federal, local and state business partners to share data and application interfaces.
  • Ensure program required database documentation is finalized and properly filed upon completion and it is kept up to date when modifications are made.
  • Adheres to established Technical Services documentation standards and version control protocol.
  • Perform data analysis to provide ad-hoc reports and file extracts for internal and external agencies ensuring integrity of data is maintained.
  • Perform analysis of data which may be causing issues affecting DCS and coordinate a resolution.
  • Utilize rational databases for internal and external partners.
  • Ensure relational integrity of data is maintained verifying constraints, linked tables and consistency during updates by monitoring the results.
Required Experience:

  • Five (5) years of information systems experience in with Java development, implementation, and support. Education will be counted as experience if degree is in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or if a two (2) year accredited vocational training program was completed in information technology or related field. Work experience is based on a 40-hour work week. (Example: 20 hours a week for one year would equal six-months of work experience.)
  • Associate’s Degree (or 2-year vocational training) = Two (2) Years
  • Bachelor's Degree = Four (4) Years
  • Master's Degree = Six (6)
AND
  • Desire and ability to learn and master new technical and business skills.
  • Proactive troubleshooting, listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and perform assignments with minimal or no supervision.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to sort through multiple and, at times, conflicting needs and priorities is required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and in a way that technical information is understood by all customers and users, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to both business and information services staff.
  • Ability to work independently or on a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain great working relationships.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to shift priorities quickly.
  • Finalists must pass a comprehensive employment reference check and fingerprint-based criminal background check. A driver history check will be included for positions requiring state vehicle driving privileges. Adverse findings will be evaluated to determine eligibility for the position.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience with Struts, Spring, EJBs, and Hibernate Frameworks.
  • Experience with Major Relational Database Management Servers and Web Application Servers such as DB2 and WebSphere Application Server.
  • Experience participating in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) activities, including requirements, design, development, unit/regression testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate conflicting needs and resolutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapid changes in business process.
