The Jail Clinician Associate works with the unit team to triage inmates for risk and mental health concerns, refer these inmates for specialized housing and further treatment/interventions, and provide immediate crisis intervention as needed.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
• Experience is negotiable based on aptitude and professional interest

Preferred Education and Experience

• Prior experience in forensic mental health or institutional behavior management.

Essential Functions

• Perform initial structured triage for suicide risk, mental illness and medication management in booking as directed
• Provide ongoing monitoring and risk-triage of already incarcerated inmates for suicide risk, mental illness, and potential for victimization as directed by the Program Manager.
• Refer persons who are determined to be at risk for self- harm or victimization due to mental illness for segregated housing and follow-up care
• Refer clients to clinical services as appropriate
• Collect and triage inmate requests for critical risk at time of collection
• Respond to service requests with appropriate interventions as assigned, or referral to clinical staff Encourage clients to use positive coping strategies and provide psycho-education under the direction of the treatment team
• Refer clients to appropriate community mental health services and other community supports by request Coordinate services with other mental health, medical and jail staff as needed Assess for Emergency Detention during court non-business hours
• Documents interactions with inmates in the electronic medical record and recommendations in the applicable jail monitoring system
• Maintain copies of forms in offices, intake and inmate areas
• Maintain and update census boards, program stats and spread-sheets Cover other shifts and duties as needed
