The Junior SOC (Security Operations Center) Analyst is an entry level position responsible for assisting the alert detection, response, and remediation of Cyber events. The position will reside within the Threat Management Engineering Team.

Essential Functions

Operational Management

  • Work investigations as they happen until Risk is minimized.
  • Assist in administration and maintenance SIEM/SOAR.
  • Work with Threat Management’s Security Engineering and Threat Intelligence (CTI) teams to ensure their logging and alerting gaps are filled.
  • Work in a communication-oriented team environment so accomplish large goals through distributed tasks.

Strategy & Planning

  • Forecast log growth.
  • Develop use cases for logs.
  • Ensure documentation for Cyber procedures.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Assist with evaluation and researching alternate security tools and techniques.
  • Help integrate technologies and feeds into SIEM and SOAR platforms

Incidental Functions

  • Conduct research into new technologies, including tools, components, and frameworks.
  • Assist with knowledge share initiatives with various teams.
  • Assist with project and task management and reporting as necessary.
  • Help create presentations for management, clients, and peer groups as requested.
  • Customer Service to the Business when access to the tools used are required.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • Associate degree (or foreign equivalent) in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology field of study (e.g., Information Technology, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Systems Management, Mathematics) or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 0-1 year of IT experience.
  • 0-1 year of analytical experience - Functional Analyst, Application Development, Technical Analyst.
  • Competent in verbal and written communications.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Eager to learn, grow and develop technical, interpersonal and business skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Ability to gauge Risk on Cyber threats.
  • Basic knowledge of or exposure to SIEM and SOAR tools such as Splunk, Sentinel, etc.
  • Basic understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Basic understanding of Internet.
  • Basic understanding of DNS.
  • Basic understanding of Web Services.
  • Basic understanding of Identity Management and Authentication Security.
  • Familiar with scripting (BASH, Python, Powershell).
  • Basic understanding of attack vectors such as phishing, malware, social engineering as well as defenses such as IDS, IPS, Firewalls.
