New Jersey Resources is seeking a Manager, Compliance and Investigations, who will be responsible for assisting with development and management of the New Jersey Resources Compliance Program (“Program”) and oversight of workplace investigations under the supervision of the General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer. The Manager will implement and administer oversight of the Program and will address risks related to business ethics and compliance requirements. They will also ensure all policies, process, and practices of the various business segments of New Jersey Resources and its affiliates adhere to the expectations of the Code of Conduct, requirements of the Program, and other regulatory requirements. The Manager will also manage the design and implementation of strategies, policies, processes, and tools that facilitate effective and efficient compliance practices, observe and report actual or potential violations, establish and track training requirements, and monitor the progress of corrective actions. They will investigate and maintain documentation of ethics and compliance incidents and ensure timely reporting to government entities or other bodies as required. The Manager will be responsible for generally providing assistance with the management of the corporate compliance function, including providing advice, guidance and support to internal stakeholders regarding adherence to regulatory/compliance requirements and implementing compliance initiatives to help manage regulatory risk. The Manager will also develop and conduct periodic risk assessments, monitor key elements of Program, and ensure alignment and effectiveness of compliance activities across the Company and its affiliates. The Manager will also provide insights regarding regulatory changes, trends, areas for potential risk, and process gaps, and offer compliance guidance and reporting to senior management.

The Manager will also be responsible for overseeing, managing, coordinating, and documenting a variety of workplace investigations into a broad array of issues within New Jersey Resources and its affiliates, including Code of Conduct, employee complaints, regulatory investigations, and other claims (including property damage and bodily injury claims as needed) against the Company.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the management of the Compliance Program at New Jersey Resources and its affiliates
  • Ensure awareness at all levels of the organization of compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Plan and conduct compliance monitoring, including exercising oversight responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Compliance Program
  • Review corporate and entity policies/procedures for consistency with applicable law and policies.
  • Participate on cross-functional/cross-business initiatives as needed
  • Prepare reports and trend analyses to management, and gather information Board and Committee reporting
  • Track and maintain Code of Conduct and employee complaint and compliance investigation reporting
  • Conduct investigations of high-priority allegations of ethics violations or other noncompliance issues as needed
  • Manage the development, revision and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures to provide for compliance with applicable laws and regulations having a significant impact on the operations or strategy of the Company; work collaboratively with department attorneys, General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer and senior management
  • Partner with all relevant teams to implement process improvement
  • Oversee, manage and coordinate internal investigations concerning violations of company policy including discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and other employee relations matters, property damage, personal injury complaints and defensive litigation
  • Manage the resolution of compliance-related problems encountered by various areas of the Company as related to laws and regulations
  • Oversee, collaborate and coordinate with internal teams to gather evidence, communicate findings, assess mitigation steps, and develop remediation plans
  • Lead interviews and perform research and analysis, while directing personnel supporting the investigation and make recommendations to enhance controls and/or processes
  • Recommend, own and implement corrective/preventative measures aimed at improving compliance and reducing repeat occurrences
  • Work with other departments including Legal and HR in developing recommendations for resolutions of compliance issues and investigations and identifying trends or isolated issues
Position Requirements:
  • Compliance, auditing or legal background required
  • A college degree is preferred; however, will consider applicants with relevant professional experience and training; Paralegal or Certified Fraud Certification helpful but not mandatory.
  • 7-10+ years compliance experience with a multinational organization.
  • Minimum of 5 years Project management experience. Six sigma or similar training preferred.
  • Energy industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; ability to professionally communicate with all levels of management.
  • Ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information in a professional manner.
  • Strong decision-making, solid judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to research and interpret regulations and laws and disseminate information.
  • Ability to design processes and evaluate effectiveness of controls.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines, including multitasking.
  • Self-starter; ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Ability to analyze financial and other data relevant to allegations of misconduct, including fraud.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Excel
  • Experience in handling confidential and sensitive investigations and information with ability to exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Familiarity with investigative practices, corporate and forensic practices
