The Division of Finance and Administration contributes to Georgia State University's teaching, research and public service mission by providing the university community and the institution's constituents with quality services in a supportive and cost-effective manner. The division provides specialized expertise in the stewardship of human resources, financial assets, property and facilities in the assurance of a safe environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors to our campus.

The Department of Property Control is looking to hire an Inventory Control Specialist. The candidate for this position will be required to perform routine and analytical work to support reagents, solutions, equipment, and materials used in scientific exercises and experiments. The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for applying policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; at times work independently; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse university research population. Inventory Control Specialist will maintain accurate computerized records, catalog databases, reports, and files. Perform administrative requirements accurately and efficiently. Constantly update knowledge of changing environmental health and state and federal safety regulations and advances. The candidate should have a basic understanding of the purpose of technical laboratory equipment; assist in the purchase of scientific laboratory supplies and equipment. Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous or biohazardous materials.

Duties to include but not be limited to:

  • Assist in the purchase of required items, receiving scientific shipments, and verifying contents in accordance with Homeland Security and the Center for Disease Control procedures. Assists in maintaining proper controls and the storage of sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment; may acquire, handle and maintain living organisms.
  • Maintains computer records of items delivered and received through an automated inventory system. Compiles data from sources such as purchase orders, bills of lading, and other accounting records to record receipt or disbursement of materials or supplies, and compute inventory balances. Ensures asset numbers are generated and decals placed on equipment considered assets.
  • Prepares and issues materials and equipment for use in student laboratory demonstrations, experiments, exercises, and exams. Implements new or modified policies and procedures for distribution as required. Safely handles laboratory equipment and hazardous and biohazardous materials.
  • Assists in the implementation of departmental policies and procedures to comply with federal, state, and local hazardous materials, health and safety, and hazardous waste regulations in addition to university environmental health & safety policies; recommends to the supervisor environmental, health and safety related improvements and modifications; routinely inspects and tests safety equipment and supplies; responds to laboratory emergencies as needed.
  • Assists with daily duties in Petit Science Center stockroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree or high school diploma or GED and four years of related experience. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required.
  • Must obtain the following certifications within the first 30 days of employment: Right-to-Know Basic Awareness, Right-to- Know Chemical Specifics, Bloodborne Pathogens; Hazardous Waste Awareness and Fire Extinguisher Education and Awareness. Must obtain Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification within the first year of employment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Beginner to intermediate-level of computers
  • Basic level of knowledge of Microsoft Office
