Job Description

Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

The Information Technology Specialist will provide technical expertise for day-to-day management, operations, and support of the college’s technology infrastructure. Provides level 1 and level 2 support for hardware, software, and services, for all IT systems, including direct assistance to faculty, staff, and students. Research and analyze technical issues and problems, both hardware and software to formulate an expert level of advice and support for the help desk and other technical support staff. Formulates techniques and strategies for troubleshooting and problem-solving systems, applications, and network issues. Serves as the college information security analyst administering the local accounts and granting/removing user access to the IT services.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge:
  • Windows server: installation and configuration, virtual machines, application software, vulnerability scanning and remediation, and all software updates.
  • Network administration: routers, switches, and firewalls. Provides scanning and remediation of network switches and performs software updates on switches, wireless, surveillance cameras, and firewalls.
  • Local Area Network (LAN) Administration: Windows Server, Active Directory, User Management, DHCP, File and Print, and other Services.
  • Workstation deployment -image creation.
  • Application software, product installation, and support.
  • Workstation hardware installation and maintenance support.


Ability:
  • Outstanding oral / written communication
  • Work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Use logic to resolve complex problems.
  • Communicate and work well with everyone from the highest levels of technical management to the staff level.
  • Understand a technical environment and plan accordingly.

Experience:
  • Experience as an IT helpdesk technician, LAN administrator/technician, system and network administrator, or a relevant IT position.


Preferred Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or related field preferred.


Licensure or Certifications:
  • Microsoft and/or Cisco Certified or equivalent preferred.
