DESCRIPTION
Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Information Security Analyst I.

Under direction of the appropriate supervisor, the Information Security Analyst I will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and protection of the college's data and information systems. This position works closely with the Information Technology team and is responsible for monitoring and analyzing security threats, performing security audits, and implementing security measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary Range (34): The monthly salary range is $5,232 - $6,542. There are five annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President. Please see the current salary schedule here: MLCCD - Salary Schedule

Benefits: With no monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.

Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twelve (12) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.

Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS Retirement.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The successful candidate will support student and institutional success by executing the following duties:
  • Monitor and analyze security alerts, help desk tickets, and reports to identify potential threats to the college's information systems;
  • Perform security audits to assess the effectiveness of current security measures and identify areas for improvement;
  • Validates system hardening to recommend security configurations;
  • Work with the Director of Information Technology to develop and implement security policies and procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of college data and information systems;
  • Collaborate with the Information Technology team to resolve security-related issues and implement security best practices;
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest security trends and technologies and recommend appropriate solutions to improve the college's security posture;
  • Participate in security incident response activities and provide technical assistance as needed;
  • Document security incidents, investigations, and remediation activities;
  • Assist with security awareness training and education for college faculty, staff, and students;
  • Attends related meetings and workshops; performs other program duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Office and computer room environment; subject to noise from computer equipment.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:

  • Mobility: frequent sitting for long periods; frequent walking and standing; occasional reaching above and below desk level; frequent balancing on varied surfaces.

  • Lifting: frequent lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 70 pounds.

  • Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and speaking in person and on the telephone.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: frequent need to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Education: Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field. Education requirement may be met by three years' experience in an Information Security role.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Security, or a related field.
Industry certifications including CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Licenses/Certifications/Other Requirements: The employee may periodically be required to travel to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, the employee is required to have a valid California driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Computer networks, operating systems, and security technologies
  • Cyber security tools, vulnerability tools, network scanning tools, and firewalls
  • Familiarity with security standards such as NIST and CIS Benchmarks

ABILITY TO:
  • Analyze security-related information and identify potential threats and vulnerabilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Organize, prioritize, and schedule workload
  • Work independently and as part of a team

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT(Prior to beginning employment)
