Job description

Responsible for the daily administration of employment, employee relations, compensation, and related human resource activities for university employees. Assists in the administration, interpretation and/or application of appropriate human resource policies, procedures and laws. Conducts research on related subjects, and compiles and analyzes data. Develops reports and summaries as requested by management.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human resource management, business, or related field.
One year experience in human resources or a related field.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience with group presentations.
Demonstrated computer experience with business software applications, including, Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal and organizational skills.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to build rapport, communicate effectively and project a positive attitude.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification.
Experience in employment and/or, compensation.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
Demonstrated ability to work in a collective bargaining environment.
Experience working in a SAP/HR environment.
Experience maintaining web pages.

Duties & Responsibilities
Assists departments in the resolution of human resource-related issues related to employment, compensation and employee relations.
Assists in the administration, interpretation and/or application of appropriate human resource policies, procedures and laws.
Presents and facilitates employee training sessions and/or workshops.
Conducts survey research, responds to surveys, compiles survey data and prepares draft recommendations.
May evaluate, develop, and propose improvement to practices or procedures.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Employment and Compensation:
Conducts recruitment, selection and screening activities.
Trains selection committees and/or hiring supervisors.
Assists in monitoring EEO/AA compliance.
Promotes efforts to increase diversity on campus.
Assists in the evaluation of independent contractor statuses.
Reviews and approves staff temporary assignments.
Conducts personnel file audits.
Conducts classification and organizational reviews.
Researches and analyzes external market and internal compensation data.
Collects and compiles information for annual analysis.
Reviews and processes compensation-related requests.
Performs day-to-day maintenance of system controls relating to compensation issues.
Assists with monitoring unemployment claims.
Assists with civil rights/Title IX complaints as needed.
Administers the FMLA/Leaves process.
Employee Relations:
Investigates and assists with handling grievances, special conferences, arbitration and mediation.
Works with union representatives to resolve issues.
Makes recommendations to the Director/Employee Relations for grievance settlements where appropriate.
Assists departments and/or supervisors with contract interpretation and administration.
Investigates and advises departments on performance problems and disciplinary action.
Performs research and prepares reports, including preparation for negotiations and arbitration.
Participates in the staff collective bargaining process.
Handles routine correspondence with unions and related outside state or federal agencies.
Develops and conducts training programs for supervisors, managers, directors and line staff on employee relations issues.
Training:
May assist with professional development programs and presentations.
Plans, designs, and presents training programs and materials to on- and off-campus participants. sessions primarily related to Employment and Compensation.
May assist with training needs analysis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
