The HR Generalist (HRG) serves as a consultant to management on Human Resource related issues. HRG assesses and anticipates HR-related needs. HRG holds primary responsibility for day to day interactions in designated HR areas while also providing back up support in the remaining areas assigned to the HR department. Communicating needs proactively with our HR department and business management, the HRG seeks to develop integrated solutions. The HRG formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. The HRG may include company outreach responsibilities in the areas of employee event planning as well as social awareness activity planning. The HRG maintains an effective level of business literacy including trends, culture, best practices, regulatory changes, new technologies in HR, talent management and employment law.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist in developing (and regularly reporting on) metrics in partnership with HR group to identify trends and implement solutions, programs and policies.
  • Assist with change management in HR areas where employee engagement and input is desirable for new policies, process improvement, benefits, compensation, and training.
  • Resolve moderately complex employee relations issues, with or without assistance.
  • Maintain working knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day interaction with employees to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provides day to day guidance to line management and employees on a broad variety of HR topics (benefits, employment related inquiries, coaching, career development, etc.).
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides HR Policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Recommend and implement HR process improvements to improve accuracy, streamline workflow, and reduce waste.
  • Provide input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, succession planning.
  • Identify training needs for business units and individual coaching needs.
  • Participate in administration, evaluation and monitoring of success of training programs. Follow-up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Organize and manage business and employee events as assigned.
  • Participate in and/or oversee wellness committee and wellness activities.
  • Periodic travel to our VA office for office hours and social events.

What you need:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of moderately complex employee relation issues.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including benefits, compensation, employee relations, diversity, AAP, performance management, employment laws.
  • General HRIS knowledge – Paylocity experience is a plus
  • Workforce/succession planning and compensation is a plus
  • Relevant industry experience a plus.
  • HR certification a plus.

Location: Annapolis Junction, MD. In-office 3 days per week with an option of 2 days remote.
