The Housekeeping Supervisor provides supervision to housekeeping staff to ensure that the museum presents an inviting appearance to museum patrons. This position is responsible for the effective supervision and administration of custodial activities including scheduling, timekeeping, budget preparation and monitoring, performance management, employee relations, prioritizing and assigning work and related activities. Routinely conducts inspections and investigates customer complaints to ensure quality and scope of completed work meets standards. Observes completed work and trains staff according to approved JYF cleaning standards. Monitors, inventories and distributes materials, supplies, and equipment as needed; coordinates the operation and care of custodial tools and equipment. Develops, updates and evaluates work and safety standards, policies and procedures. Operates cleaning equipment as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Coordination of Work – Ability to establish and implement effective administrative programs and procedures. Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology. Knowledge of leadership techniques, principles and procedures to assign work, schedule and train staff.

2. Cleaning Methods – General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment to include the operation of heavy commercial cleaning equipment such as high-powered buffers and vacuums, cleaning chemicals, and supplies; and knowledge of safety practices related to work.

3. Equipment Operation – Ability to use equipment and cleaning materials safely, efficiently and economically. Demonstrated ability to lift heavy objects and to stand for extended periods and to perform manual labor

4. Communication – Ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally or in writing. Demonstrated ability to communicate priorities

5. Interpersonal Relationships/Customer Service – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees and the public. Effectively responds to routine inquiries and disputes.

6. Financial Management – Ability to effectively manage an annual departmental budget through the employment of basic economic and accounting principles and practices, to include tracking and reporting, inventory, record maintenance, and proper implementation of agency purchasing requirements.

7. Judgement/Decision Making – Uses logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.

8. Ability to use Microsoft Word, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience performing cleaning tasks indicating possession of the preceding minimum qualifications.
  • Four years in housekeeping in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Special Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • This position has been deemed “Essential”, as defined in Policy No. 1.04 of the DHRM Policies & Procedures Manual. For Facilities this means for the day to day operations of the museum, and emergencies, such as snow, storms, etc.
