Position Summary:

The primary function of the Housekeeper is to maintain a safe, sanitary, and pleasant physical environment for the Sisters, employees, and guests. Primary responsibilities include basic cleaning and organization of rooms, furniture, fixtures, and laundry. All duties should be performed in a manner which preserves the personal dignity of the Sisters and maintains the “home-like” atmosphere of the facility.

Qualifications:

The Housekeeper shall have the following:

1) Ability to understand and accurately follow verbal instructions in order to complete required duties with minimal supervision.

2) Ability to read and follow written instructions including directions for use of cleaning supplies and equipment.

3) Significant work experience in professional care and maintenance of both hard-surface and carpeted floors.

4) Ability to safely and effectively use a vacuum cleaner, floor polisher, carpet shampooer, dust mop, wet mop, mop bucket, cleaning cloths and brushes, stool brush, commercial laundry washing and drying equipment, clothes iron, broom, dust pan, and other cleaning tools.

5) Ability to safely and effectively use cleaning solutions, floor wax, stain remover, laundry soap, bleach, and other chemical products which may be hazardous if not used properly.

6) Ability to bend, stretch, stoop, climb stairs, kneel, reach overhead, climb step stool or ladder, perform repeated arm and hand motions, and stand for long periods of time.

7) Ability to frequently lift and carry 0-50 pounds (chairs, mop buckets, cleaning supplies, vacuum cleaner, laundry, etc.).

8) Ability to occasionally lift 50-75 pounds or exert similar force to move heavier objects (reclining chairs, tables, mattresses, beds, bedside stands, etc.).

9) Ability to frequently push or pull 50-175 lbs. on wheels (laundry carts, hampers, etc.)

10) Ability to relate well to Sisters, guests, and other employees.

11) Excellent spirit of cooperation and ability to function as part of a team.

Position Relationships:

The Housekeeper is supervised by and accountable to the Motherhouse Administrator and the Lead Housekeeper unless another supervisor is designated. The Housekeeper will assist and/or work with other housekeeping staff and frequent coordination is required with all other departments.

Required Duties:

1) Completing routine cleaning activities in assigned areas. These activities include but are not limited to: Stripping, buffing, waxing, vacuuming, wet mopping, dry mopping, dusting, scrubbing, sweeping, shampooing carpets, and other floor cleaning and maintenance activities. Cleaning windows, drapes, blinds, sinks, tubs, toilets, furniture, appliances, floors, walls, drinking fountains, light fixtures, mattresses, and other items.

2) Using and maintaining equipment safely and properly.

3) Using supplies and chemicals safely, economically, and appropriately.

4) Implementing measures to enhance the safety of self and others. Using hazard signs when appropriate to safeguard the safety of others.

5) Assisting staff and Sisters in creating a home-like and safe living environment. Moving and arranging furniture, making beds, organizing rooms.

6) Performing laundry duties including: sorting, washing, drying, inspecting, mending, ironing, folding, and storing clothes, linens, and other laundry.

7) Participating in upkeep and restocking of supplies for the Sisters and staff use. Changing light bulbs; replenishing hand soap, paper towels and toilet paper; emptying wastebaskets, bagging and carrying out trash, sorting and storing recyclable items.

8) Promptly reporting problems with buildings, furniture, fixtures, equipment, or supplies. Properly filling out maintenance requests when needed.

9) Maintaining employment policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook including but not limited to: proper use of the time clock and/or time cards; proper hygiene, grooming, and dress; rest breaks; working days and hours as assigned; attending in-service and other training sessions as required and standards of conduct.

10) Properly completing and submitting time cards and various forms related to paid leave use and employee benefits.

11) Maintaining confidentiality of information related to Sister’s health and their private and personal matters.

12) Effectively communicating with and relating to Sisters and other employees; working effectively as part of a team.

13) Performing other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $11.26 - $12.32 per hour
