HOMELESS RECONNECTION OFFICER – BAND 5 (£25,409 - £27,852)

Full-time Fixed Term Contract – March 2025

Are you keen to embrace working in a busy and fast paced service, learning and implementing housing legislation, providing an empathetic service to vulnerable customers to assist them with their housing needs?

Every day brings new challenges in this role.

Working alongside experienced and professional colleagues, such as the police, mental health professionals, housing association officers and social services, you will make a huge difference to some of the most vulnerable people in the borough.

You will be responsible for working with the Rough Sleeping Team and the Housing Options Advisors to assess people coming to the area that have no local connection to the Borough or Recourse to Public Funds. Providing advice to applicants you will assess their housing need and facilitate travel and reconnection to their local area or repatriation to their Country of origin. Managing a caseload of applicants, you will be required to undertake statutory homeless decisions based on the Homeless Reduction Act, liaising with Local Authorities you will be making Local Connection referrals, investigating whether applicants are at risk in their local area and if there is accommodation available to them there.

This is an incredible exciting time to join the team with the introduction of a new IT system and allocation scheme, along with many other new initiatives such as the Great Yarmouth Homeless Alliance, the Councils commitment to the No Homeless in Norfolk Strategy and the Borough’s Rough Sleeping initiatives.
