Essential Functions:

  • Develops and implements department goals, plans, policies, procedures, and standards consistent with the clinical, admistrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including screening applicants, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.
  • Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Ensures department stays focused on their important role in continuum of care.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and supervises the record processing functions and staff of the HIM Technicians area including assignment of work.
  • Monitors medical records for compliance with legal requirements; confers with other staff concerning quality compliance issues.
  • Coordinates implementation and maintenance of the EMR/ELR system; acts as liaison with MIS and works with staff to resolve software problems.
  • Develops policies and procedures relating to reconciliation of medical records and records processing functions.
  • Prepares payroll in the absence of the HIM Director.
  • Responds to inquires of staff, vendors, and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction, discussing and resolving any issues and/or problems.
  • Promotes quality improvement, staff and patient safety, cultural diversity and contributes to the morale and teamwork of the staff through department operations and by personal performance.
  • Assumes job role of HIM Technician in staff absence and contributes to daily work plan as needed for achieving department goals.
  • Follows all departmental and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Understand the relationship between coding and billing and the four day bill hold process.
  • Prepares agendas and presentations, prepares minutes, conducts and reports statistical studies, performs and reports the results of audits and studies.
  • Provides technical / operational training to staff and providers.

  • Assists other departments as needed with other requests and special projects as needed.

Minimum Education: Associate’s Degree Required


Required Skills:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, organizational skills, verbal skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment, take appropriate action and lead the HIM Technician Team.
  • Must be proficient in word processing software including Outlook Email, Excel and Microsoft Word.


Certifications:
RHIT preferred

Minimum Work Experience: 1-3 years of Health Information Management Experience Required
