Standley Lake High School is a comprehensive high school committed to academic excellence, community, and lifelong learning. We have a number of rigorous academic pathways open to students, including AP/IB classes, Performing and Fine Arts classes, STEM classes, and a culinary pathway, to name a few. Job Title: Theatre Teacher/Director

Work Year: 185 days

Reports to: Principal


Summary

Standley Lake High School is seeking a PartTime Theatre teacher to cultivate a successful theatre program. This includes developing students’ individual and group performance skills, technical skills, and theatre knowledge. Standley Lake High School will be an enriching and gratifying professional experience for educators embracing collaboration, professionalism, and collective commitment. The person filling this position will work closely with the performing arts staff and the larger SLHS community to foster a culture of growth and excellence .

Pre-Screening Standards

  • Highly Qualified in content area
  • Demonstrated desire and experience in teaching technical theater to diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Must hold a valid Colorado teaching license or authorization. Must meet content-area qualifications, which could include the appropriate license endorsement, degree in the content area and Colorado State Board of Education approved content exam.

Preferred

  • Knowledge in Q-Lab
  • Major in Theatre Arts/Theatre Education
  • Licensed in Career and Technical Education (CTE) for Performing Arts or demonstrates a willingness to complete requirements within the fall semester.
  • Knowledge in Auto-Cad or Vectorworks or other drafting softwares

Drama and Theatre Arts

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, teach skills and concepts, and assess and reflect utilizing the Jeffco Public Schools instructional model, theatre curriculum tools, and Colorado Academic Standards in theatre
  • Possess a passion for teaching all aspects of theater (performance and technical).
  • Willingness to sponsor an active Thespian Troupe.
  • Strong communication, organization, and human relations skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate toward school-wide activities and performances (assemblies, musicals, plays, theatre, etc.).
  • Collaborate with district and articulation area colleagues to grow thriving and active theatre programming at all levels and community organizations.
  • Direct and/or Tech Direct yearly acting performances including the fall play, one acts, and the musical and others as needed.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach a variety of theatre performance and technical theater classes and run all aspects of the theater.
  • Utilize effective and engaging rehearsal techniques and excellent communication skills.
  • Guide students as they engage with and appreciate the arts, and support them in becoming life-long creators.
  • Identify and diagnose individual and group performance challenges and prescribe appropriate and effective growth feedback.
  • Seek out opportunities for professional growth in theatre, implement new learning in your practice, and reflect to allow for personal growth.
  • Recruit and retain students to maintain sustainable enrollment.
  • Actively seek guest artists, to continue development of ensembles.
  • Participate in and prepare students for State and District Theatre festivals and Conferences including Jeffco Theatre Festival, Jeffco Improv Festival and Colorado State Thespian Conference.
  • Ensure that any tools, and equipment are properly used, maintained, stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current.
  • Utilize administrative skills to manage theatre budget, collaborative productions, community performance schedules, required paperwork for field trips, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of specified course content. Responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that results in students achieving academic success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Orient students to their coursework and communicate course requirements.

  • Employ asynchronous and synchronous tools to supplement course content.

  • Create and deliver live and recorded instructional sessions.

  • Maintain regular office hours to provide students or parents one-on-one and small group support.

  • Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.

  • Partner with special education staff to implement student's IEPs, ALPs and 504s.

  • Set deadlines for student work and grant extensions.

  • Attend face-to-face meetings with students and parent/guardian, as scheduled.

  • Grade student work, enter grades into an online gradebook, and provide course grade.

  • Communicate with parents as needed.

  • Collaborate with other instructional staff.

  • Administer school-wide assessments including CSAP, ACT, and Acuity.

  • Conduct student/parent/teacher conferences.

  • Attend (virtual and physical) and actively participate in all required staff meetings and professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
