General Description: Southwest Local School District teachers will promote the academic and social growth of all students every day and maintain a classroom environment that is positive, focused, and conducive to learning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Provide best practice instruction with a focus on high levels of student engagement, differentiation, and engagement.

2. Adapt subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.

3. Provide remedial and challenging instruction to ensure high levels of student interest and meet the individual needs of all students.

4. Adapt the curriculum to provide the three tiers of instruction (core, strategic, and intensive) to whole class, small groups, and individuals. (differentiation/Rtl)

5. Provides services as outlined in the students' IEP, 504, WEP, and/or Intervention Plan.

6. Create activities that lead students to develop skills in inductive reasoning, logic, and critical analysis.

7. Identify and address student needs both collaboratively and independently in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and behavior concerns.

8. Design and administer formative assessments that are aligned with instructional outcomes and responsive to the needs of individual students.

9. Use assessment results to plan future instruction (makes data-based decisions) to intervene or enrich.

10. Explicitly teach behavior expectations and provide a three tier level of support to cultivate a safe school environment. (PBIS)

11. Establish clear standards of student conduct and maintain an orderly, productive classroom environment.

12. Teach content and skills in the subject area according to the state standards and district curriculum maps, guides, etc.

13. Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.

14. Assess student academic progress on an ongoing basis and provide progress reports as required.

15. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of all students.

16. Administer or monitor district and state wide tests with efficacy and integrity

17. Participate in the sponsorship of student activities.

18. Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional development activities

19. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

20. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

21. Possess an understanding of technology for the purposes of email, record keeping, word processing, enhancing classroom instruction, etc.

22. Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.

23. Perform other tasks/duties as assigned by the building administrator.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE-A Bachelor's degree in an education field. Successful teaching experience and /or experience working with youth is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret student assessment data. Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with students, parents, and colleagues.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS- Valid Teacher's license issued by the Ohio Department of Education.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES - A teacher should have a positive and enthusiastic attitude and the ability to work well with others. Passion for both teaching students and subject matter is important. Good communication and teaming skills are also key. Communicating with parents, students and stakeholders by giving timely and accurate feedback and information is vital. Creating newsletters, maintaining a website, using email and text or other social media is expected. Good organization skills & understanding of the lesson planning process are also expected. Teachers must be flexible and adaptive to change.
