DESCRIPTION

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and Mendo-Lake Adult Career and Education (ML ACE) Assistant.

This is a full-time, categorically funded, Classified position. We are seeking an equity-minded person who is committed to supporting our diverse student population and the District Mission. Under direction of the HEP and ML ACE program managers, provides office and technical support for the HEP AND ML ACE programs.

The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and the Mendocino-Lake Adult and Career Education (ML ACE) have existed since 1972 and 2015 respectively.

HEP assists migratory and seasonal farm workers (or children of such workers) who are 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in school to obtain the equivalent of a high school diploma and, subsequently, to gain employment or begin postsecondary education or training. The program serves 75 students annually.

ML ACE serves adults 18 years or older who are enrolled in high school diploma programs, non-credit ESL courses, career and technical training programs, Adults with Disability (AWD) programs, and short-term job training programs. It is a state-funded regional consortium which is made up of seven adult schools (in Mendocino and Lake Counties), two County of Education Career Technical Education programs and the non-credit programs at Mendocino College.

Successful candidate is anticipated to start on or before July 1, 2023.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary Range (24): The monthly salary range is $4,087 - $5,111. There are five annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President. Please see the current salary schedule here: MLCCD - Salary Schedule

Benefits: With no monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.

Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twelve (12) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.

Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS Retirement.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will support student success and equal access by executing the following duties:

  • Assists the program managers with the day-to-day program operations and activities including student recruitment and the implementation of services provided
  • Contacts other agencies, programs and departments to coordinate various program activities, field trips and workshops
  • Assists in implementing program policies and practices pursuant to district, state and federal program regulations
  • Reviews student files and evaluates eligibility for the program, along with HEP and ML ACE program managers, and the services to be provided according to eligibility
  • Refers students to different adult education programs and agencies in the consortium by utilizing the referral system used by ML ACE and HEP (i.e My Professional Center)
  • Advises ML ACE and HEP students regarding their rights and responsibilities, program requirements, and services provided
  • Maintains an assessment/tracking database to record student progress such as enrollment status, class attendance, educational plans, placement, academic progress, and first year completion and High School Equivalency retention and graduation rates
  • Coordinates with vendor to maintain and monitor the ML ACE website
  • Supports postings, data retrieval, and community responses on ML ACE/HEP social media platforms
  • Prepares and/or assists with the preparation of a variety of reports and correspondence for information and financial purposes, maintains various files and records for auditing, tracking and other purposes
  • Prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders, under the supervision of the HEP and ML ACE program managers
  • May train and provide work direction to temporary employees, such as student assistants and tutors
  • Arranges and schedules meetings and appointments; makes travel arrangements as necessary; orders, receives and maintains an inventory of office supplies and other materials; receives, opens, and distributes mail
  • Attends meetings and workshops as directed
  • Takes minutes in ML ACE monthly meetings and prepares agenda packet for the next upcoming monthly meetings
  • Performs related duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS
Office environment; subject to interruptions and distractions. Physical demands include sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking, and light lifting (up to 15 lbs).

AA/AS Degree Preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) is required

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.

Experience in working with special populations, particularly Migrant and Seasonal Farm working adults and their children.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.

Knowledge of:

Program regulations, policies, procedures; population(s) served; office practices, procedures and equipment; word processing, spreadsheet, and data base software; recordkeeping techniques; correct English and Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, and basic arithmetic; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; related community agencies

Ability to:

Interview and advise students; determine eligibility for program; read, interpret, apply and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; plan, schedule, and perform a variety of program activities; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; organize and prioritize work to meet timelines; train and provide work direction to others; compose correspondence and prepare reports; maintain a variety of records and files; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; understand and follow oral and written directions; work independently with little direction; complete work with interruptions and distractions; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; meet schedules and timelines; plan, organize, prioritize, and schedule work; operate a variety of office equipment including a computer terminal and related software, calculator, copier, and others as applicable.
