POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Health Office Manager the Health Office Support/Transporter will provide transportation for NHBP tribal members and other eligible patients to health care appointments and other approved health and human services sponsored programs or events. In addition to transportation, the Health Office Support/Transporter will assist front desk personnel with reception, scheduling, scanning, filing, and mail distribution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities, and positions titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government.   • Provides transportation to medical visits either at NHBP clinics or external health care providers and NHBP approved functions.
  • Pick up of pharmacy orders as required and in accordance to policy.
  • Provides general support to Health Department and Human Services Department staff as directed.
  • Assist with front desk duties such as routing incoming faxes, taking incoming calls, scanning documents into the electronic health record, scheduling and patient registration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An applicant’s education, training and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the ability to successfully perform each of the essential functions. The requirements listed below are generally representative of the education, experience, and skills and/or ability required to enable one to successfully perform the essential functions associated with his position:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand, gain knowledge and appreciate the differences with the Native American culture and customs.
  • Exemplary customer service skills. Must be able to communicate with clients verbally and with compassion.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record; GSA certifiable.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Chauffer License
  • Must be able to travel and ability to drive at night.
  • Must be able to safely assist clients in and out of a vehicle if required.
  • Ability to become CPR/First Aid certified as training is offered.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours including working evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check: must not have been found guilty of, or pled guilty or no contest to, any felony or misdemeanor offense under federal, state or tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, prostitution, or other crimes against persons, or offenses committed against children; must be able to successfully pass a drug screening.
  • Ability to work well independently when required and an ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary health team.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with tribal members, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and implement office organization and procedures.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets, and knowledge of other office equipment required.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to take appropriate action in emergency or stressful situations.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills; self-starter and self-directed.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, including a demonstrated understand and application of HIPAA.

Tribal preference will be applied in accordance with the NHBP Indian Preference in Employment Code which requires that preference in employment be afforded to NHBP members, spouse/parents of NHBP members and Native Americans who meet the minimum qualifications and can successfully perform the essential functions for the position.
