Job Details:
The Mercer University School of Medicine is searching for Health Equity Navigators for a grant within Community Medicine on the Columbus, Georgia campus. We will be recruiting candidates from the following counties for multiple of these positions: Butts, Carroll, Coweta, Fayette, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, Troup, and Upson.

Responsibilities:
The Health Equity Navigator will be part of the Health Equity Navigator initiative within the Center for Rural Health and Health Disparities, which is designed to increase knowledge of and access to resources to combat the effects of health disparities in a 12-county region (Carroll, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Heard, Troup, Meriwether, Pike, Lamar, Butts, Spalding, and Upson) of west Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) District 4. Navigators will be responsible for
  • Identifying and developing relationships with new community partners each month and maintaining relationships with existing partners
  • Engaging with community members and organizations on a regular basis to promote health equity in DPH District 4
  • Developing and implementing events focused on health equity issues in DPH District 4
  • Assist with improving testing and contact tracing among populations at higher risk that are underserved, including racial and ethnic minorities and rural communities.
  • Address vaccine hesitancy within the DPH district and other challenges, including difficulty navigating processes and addressing the social determinants of health throughout DPH 4 public health
  • Utilizing evidence-based strategies, methods, frameworks, messaging, and guidance tools for community outreach, engagement, and training on key chronic diseases and prevention topics
  • Participating and collaborating in community events hosted by partners to raise awareness of the initiative and provide support
  • Serving as a contact point for individuals looking for health equity-related resources within the assigned area
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive resource list and guide covering the assigned area
  • Assisting with connecting community members to COVID-19-related testing, contact tracing, and vaccination promotion efforts
The navigators will work closely with the principal investigator, Dr. Eke, in research areas, including health disparities, access to care, and rural health. This job will allow the navigators to enhance their research and public health skills.
***Please note that this position is a hybrid format, which will require remote/work-from-home and physical presence in the office. While most of this job is remote based, onsite work on the Columbus campus will be required on an as needed basis. Candidates residing within one of these twelve counties or Columbus areas are encouraged to apply. This position also involves travel within the assigned geographic areas. Due to the nature of the role of promoting community outreach to reach all target populations, Navigators may be required to work during some evenings, weekends, and nontraditional workdays.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Candidates must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates with prior experience working on community-based initiatives, experience in community development and/or experience delivering trainings are highly desirable.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.
