SUMMARY

The primary objective is to provide health communication support for the Division of Injury Prevention’s Tribal Affairs Team and our Core State Injury and Violence Prevention Program (Core SIPP).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Develop communication plans that demonstrate knowledge of appropriate audience segmentation, communication goals, key messages, products development, channels for distribution, and evaluation metrics
  • Manage long and short-term communications projects
    • This will involve developing Creative Briefs, Project Plans, Status updates
  • Write a variety of health communication material for various audiences, including web content, success stories, and social media
  • Clear communication material through CDC’s e-clearance system
  • Participate in grantee calls, technical reviews, and annual progress report reviews with Core SIPP project officers to identify communication technical assistance opportunities
  • Regularly report project status to the DIP Associate Director for Communications (or their designee); providing status updates as needed during team meetings
  • Attend weekly or biweekly Communications Team Meetings
  • Attend weekly or biweekly 1:1s with DIP Associate Director for Communications (or their designee)
  • Attend other regular meetings with the subject matter team(s)
  • Complete other communication tasks as needed.

MANAGEMENT/SUPERISORY AUTHORITY

No management or supervisory authority.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree is preferred in Communication, Health Communication, Public Health or a closely related discipline.
  • 6-8 years' of health care or public health communication experience
  • Previous experience with CDC NCIPC programs, policies and procedures highly desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, technical terminology to people with various backgrounds
  • Time Management: Manage time and juggle competing deadlines effectively
  • Experience working with American Indians/Alaska Native is preferred
  • Able to work with diverse scientific subject matter experts and communication specialists

  • Ability to successfully pass a federal background check and a drug screen
  • Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates Covid vaccines for federal contractors. Executive Order 14042 is currently blocked from enforcement pending court proceedings. Therefore, Cherokee Federal is halting the application of the mandate; however, if the injunction is lifted, Cherokee Federal will restore administration of the vaccine requirement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office environment.
  • The environment may require prolonged sitting, prolonged standing, and light lifting up to 20 lbs.
