Contract Position

The Organization

North Los Angeles County Regional Center “NLACRC” is a private, non-profit agency that is contracted with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974. We serve individuals across the lifespan from infants and toddlers, school age children, transition-age youth, to adults and aging adults.

SCOPE

Position will perform a variety of functions that supports educating consumers, families, and the community on regional center services.

SUPERVISION

Receives general supervision from the Manager or Director

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Act as subject matters and provide support and technical assistance to regional center staff, service providers, consumers, and families about the health and safety waiver process; and potential options to reduce or address risk.
  • Provide training on the health and safety waiver statutes to Service Coordinators and other regional center staff who may be involved in the decision to pursue a health and safety waiver to protect a consumer.
  • Develop materials and information about the health and safety waiver process in languages other than English, including American Sign Language, disseminate this information and have it posted on the regional center’s website.
  • Develop and implement an outreach and training plan for Non-English-speaking communities and obtain input from stakeholders about the effectiveness of the outreach and training and other strategies.
  • Work with regional center case management staff on ways to identify consumers who have/ might have unaddressed needs for a health and safety wavier and assist with guiding staff through the application process to meet those needs.
  • Work with regional center staff to research and identify concerns, barriers and challenges to the utilization of the health and safety waiver process.
  • Collect and provide data, as requested by DDS, regarding the number of individuals served through this effort.

EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

Knowledge

Developmental or related disabilities, social service provision.

Skills

Customer service, advocacy and relationship building experience, and a strong understanding of regional center services and community resources. Must work successfully with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

Bilingual Spanish/English is required.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree required with related experience in advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities and/or parent mentoring. Parent or family member of a consumer is highly preferred for this position.

Frequent telephone and out-of-office meetings required. Valid CDL and reliable transportation, or acceptable substitute, required.

Position will be based out of the Chatsworth and Antelope Valley offices.

Compensation

This position is non-exempt. Regular Salary: $20.89 ‑ $28.74 per hour. Please note that this position is subject to a temporary "add on" enhancement of 9.85% for qualified compensation. For more information, please contact Human Resources.
